Matthew Troy
Matthew Joseph Troy, Jr. (September 23, 1929 – December 4, 2004) was an American lawyer and politician. He was a member of the New York City Council from the New York City borough of Queens, New York, Queens from 1964 to 1977 and the leader of the Queens Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party from 1971 to 1974. He pleaded guilty to federal tax charges in 1976 and was convicted of grand larceny in 1979. Early life Troy was born September 23, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, to Matthew Troy, a lawyer and political figure who served as a municipal judge. He graduated from Georgetown University and received his law degree from Fordham University School of Law. New York City Council
The New York City Council is the lawmaking body of New York City. It has 51 members from 51 council districts throughout the five Borough (New York City), boroughs. The council serves as a check against the Mayor of New York City, mayor in a mayor-council government model, the performance of city agencies land use decisions, and legislating on a variety of other issues. It also has sole responsibility for approving the city budget. Members elected in or after 2010 are limited to two consecutive four-year terms in office but may run again after a four-year respite; however, members elected before 2010 may seek third successive terms.
