Matthew Tierney (Gaelic Footballer)
Matthew Tierney is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Oughterard and the Galway county team. Playing career Tierney won an All-Ireland Under-20 Football Championship with Galway in 2020, scoring four points in the final against Dublin. He captained NUI Galway to the Sigerson Cup in 2022, meaning he had won an All-Ireland Under-20 FC, an All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship and a Sigerson Cup by the time he was 21. He made his championship debut in 2021, scoring a goal and three points against Roscommon and getting the RTÉ man of the match award. He was nominated for the Young Footballer of the Year Award. Pádraic Joyce appointed Tierney as vice-captain of Galway in 2022. In the 2022 All-Ireland quarter-final between Armagh and Galway at Croke Park, Armagh's Greg McCabe struck Tierney's head with his shoulder. Oughterard GAA
Oughterard GAA ( ga, Cumann Peile Seamus O'Maille Uachtar Árd) is a Gaelic football club based in Oughterard, County Galway, Ireland. The Gaelic Athletic Association club is a member of the Galway GAA. Oughterard had a hurling team in the 1920s but is primarily and always has been a Gaelic football club and teams compete from the groups of under 6 to Senior. The club facilities are situated in Corribdale which is on the Pier Road in the town of Oughterard and it includes two pitches, a full-size walled pitch, a training pitch, a 600 capacity covered stand, a small terrace, changing rooms fit for 4 teams and meeting rooms with kitchen facilities. There is also a large car park that is in use by people using the surrounding Corribdale Trails. 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 135th edition of the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament since its establishment in 1887. Tyrone entered the championship as the defending champions, but were defeated by Derry in the Ulster Championship and eliminated by Armagh in the All-Ireland Qualifiers. Thirty three teams took part: all thirty two Irish counties except Kilkenny were joined by London and New York, both of whom were back in the competition for the first time since 2019, an absence caused by public health restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 Connacht Senior Football Championship was the 2022 iteration of the Connacht Senior Football Championship organised by Connacht GAA. London and New York were withdrawn from the 2020 and 2021 Connacht championships as part of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Gaelic games, due to international travel restrictions, but both returned for the 2022 season. Connacht Senior Football Championship
The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is run on a knock-out basis in which once a team loses they are eliminated from the competition. A series of games are played during the summer months and the final is played in June or July. The winner progresses directly to the All-Ireland Super 8s, while losing teams progress to the All-Ireland Qualifiers (before 2001 the All-Ireland was a straight knock-out format meaning all losing teams were eliminated after a single defeat). ''The Sunday Game'' is RTÉ's main Gaelic games television programme. It is shown on RTÉ2 every Sunday during the Football Championship and Hurling Championship seasons. David Coldrick
David Coldrick is a Gaelic football referee from County Meath. A member of the Blackhall Gaels club, he has refereed four finals of the All-Ireland SFC. Seán Moran, writing in ''The Irish Times'' in 2015, described Coldrick as "one of the least excitable referees on the inter-county scene. What might have been seen as diffidence earlier in his career has evolved into a patient and punctiliously polite demeanour, like a schoolteacher with a difficult class". In 2022, Martin Breheny named him among "five of the best football referees". Career Coldrick began refereeing in 1994. A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch.
