Matthew Holland (water Polo)
Matthew Holland, also known as Matt Holland (born 22 June 1989, in Carshalton) is a British water polo goalkeeper. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed for the Great Britain men's national water polo team in the men's event. He is 6 ft 4 inches tall. At club level, he played with Spanish team Navarra in División de Honor.. He also played in Holland and France before competing for Sutton & Cheam. Carshalton
Carshalton () is a town, with a historic village centre, in south London, England, within the London Borough of Sutton. It is situated south-southwest of Charing Cross, in the valley of the River Wandle, one of the sources of which is Carshalton Ponds in the middle of the village. Prior to the creation of Greater London in 1965, Carshalton was in the administrative county of Surrey. Carshalton consists of a number of neighbourhoods. The main focal point, Carshalton Village, is visually scenic and picturesque. At its centre it has two adjoining ponds, which are overlooked by the Grade II listed All Saints Church on the south side and the Victorian Grove Park on the north side. The Great Britain men's national water polo team is the representative for Great Britain in international men's water polo. The team has participated in eleven tournaments at the Summer Olympics, being the dominant team in the sport in the early twentieth century, with four Olympic titles. The only major competition they have ever qualified for was the first world championships in 1973. They qualified for the London 2012 Olympics by virtue of their representing the host country. Water Polo At The 2012 Summer Olympics
The water polo tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom was held at the London 2012 Water Polo Arena in the Olympic Park from 29 July to 12 August. The venue's capacity held 5,000 spectators. Twelve teams competed in the men's tournament and eight teams in the women's tournament. Qualification Both of Great Britain's teams automatically qualified, while the African qualification tournament was cancelled due as no teams entered, increasing the available spots at each final qualification tournament to four. Men Women Draw The draw for the Olympic tournament took place in May 2012. The men were drawn into two groups of six teams, the women were drawn into two groups of four teams. División De Honor De Waterpolo
The Spanish water polo championship has been contested since 1912. The current league format was introduced in 1965. The top division is currently known as the División de Honor and consists of twelve clubs. The current champions (2021–22 season) are CN Atlètic-Barceloneta from Barcelona. Competition Format The División de Honor season takes place between October and May, with every team playing each other home and away for a total of 22 matches. Points are awarded according to the following: *3 points for a win *1 points for a draw The team with the highest number of points at the end of 22 rounds of matches become champions. Promotion and relegation The bottom team in the standings at the end of the season is relegated to Primera División, while the top team from Primera División is promoted.
