Matt Doherty (Northern Irish Footballer)
Matt Doherty is a Northern Irish former professional footballer. An attacking half-back, noted for his footwork and passing, Doherty was one of Derry City FC's early stars. During his time at the Brandywell he picked up winner's medals in the City Cup and North-West Cup, played in Derry's 2–0 defeat to Linfield FC in the 1936 Irish Cup final, and in 1938 came within a whisker of helping the club to their first league title, Derry losing 3–1 to Belfast Celtic in a replayed title-deciding test match. 1937–38 was perhaps Doherty's finest season, selected by both Ireland and the Irish League XI. In September 1937 he came extremely close to signing for Burnley FC before Derry rejected their £1,000 offer. He did finally leave the Brandywell in 1941, joining Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland, where he earned three League of Ireland XI caps while at Glenmalure Park. Matthew James Doherty (born 16 January 1992) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for La Liga club Atlético Madrid and the Republic of Ireland national team. Doherty was signed by Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2010, who played his Irish club Bohemians during pre-season. He gained senior football experience with loan spells at Hibernian and Bury, before beginning to regularly feature in Wolves' first team. Doherty was a Wolves player for ten years (2010–2020) and made 302 appearances for the club in all competitions. After representing Republic of Ireland U21s, Doherty received his first call-up to the senior Republic of Ireland squad in 2016. Matthew Doherty (born June 22, 1978, in Harvey, Illinois) is an American actor. He is known for his role of Lester Averman in The Mighty Ducks trilogy. Early life and education Doherty is a graduate of Thornwood High School, a southern suburban high school in the Chicago area. While at Thornwood, he played trumpet in the school's band. As part of Matthew's tutoring while on the set of ''The Mighty Ducks'', he took trumpet lessons from Los Angeles studio musicians. He graduated with a theatre degree from Northwestern University in 1999, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. Career He is best known for playing the roles of Lester Averman in ''The Mighty Ducks'' trilogy (although in ''D1'' he is referred to as Dave Averman) and William "Heed" MacKenzie in '' So I Married An Axe Murderer''. Matthew Francis Doherty (born February 25, 1962) is an American former college basketball coach best known for his time as head coach of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team. Prior to accepting the head coaching position at UNC he spent one season as head coach of the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's basketball program. As a college player, Doherty started on the 1981–82 North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team, which on March 29, 1982, won the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, defeating the University of Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team by a score 63–62.
