Major General Matthew Charles Dixon VC CB (5 February 1821 – 8 January 1905) was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces, and a Knight of the Legion of Honour. He was the eldest son of Major-General Matthew Charles Dixon RE (1791–1860) and his second wife Emma Dalton (1794–1853) and was born in France on 5 February 1821. Military career He entered the British Army in 1839, was promoted to lieutenant in 1841, and to captain in 1848. He was 34 years old, and a captain in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, British Army during the Crimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. Matthew Lewis Dixon (born 19 April 2000) is an English diver who represents Great Britain and specialises in the 10 metre platform event. He won a silver medal at the European Championships in the 10 m synchro platform with Noah Williams as well as two silvers at the Commonwealth Games. Career 2012–13 At the 2012 British National Cup Matthew finished 12th in the 10 m platform. At the 2013 British Diving Championship he finished 10th in the 3 m springboard and 5th in the 10 m Platform preliminaries. 2014: Commonwealth Games At the 2014 European Junior Championships he finished 15th in the 1 m Springboard, 8th in the 3 m Springboard and won Bronze on the platform. Matthew William Dixon (born 12 June 1992) is an Australian cricketer who has played for Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers domestically. From Perth, Dixon played cricket for Western Australia at both under-17 and under-19, and also represented the Australian Under-19 cricket team in five One-Day Internationals in 2009, taking three wickets. A right-arm fast bowler, he made his Futures League debut for the Western Australia Under-23s in February 2010, and subsequently made his List A debut for Western Australia against Victoria in October 2010, taking a wicket with his fifth ball and finishing with 1/39 overall. He played two more matches in the 2010–11 Ryobi One-Day Cup before making his first-class debut against New South Wales in March 2011, taking two wickets. Matthew Dixon (born 19 December 1994) is an English semi-professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Whitby Town. He has played in the Football League for York City. Dixon started his career with hometown club Hull City, signing a professional contract in May 2013. He had a loan spell with Conference North club Gainsborough Trinity in the 2014–15 season, before making his first-team debut for Hull in a League Cup match in August 2015.
