Matthew James Baker (born 23 December 1977) is a British television presenter. He co-presented the children's television show ''Blue Peter'' from 1999 until 2006, BBC One's ''Countryfile'' since 2009 and ''The One Show'' from 2011 to 2020, with Alex Jones. Early life Baker was born on 23 December 1977 at Easington in County Durham where his father ran a newsagent's shop, and his parents had a smallholding in the village. He has one sister and two half-sisters. Matt attended Easington Village School, then, when he was aged 10, his parents bought a farm west of Durham, which they moved into and renovated. From the age of 5 Baker was a keen dancer and began competing as a gymnast whilst at school. He continued his education at Belmont Comprehensive School in Durham and was a budding gymnast, but was forced to give up after being diagnosed with anaemia aged 14. Matthew Baker is an Australian bass-baritone who specialises in the performance of early music and Baroque operas and oratorios. Matthew Baker was born in Sydney and received his BA in Medieval Studies from the University of Sydney in 1997. After serving as a Lay Vicar in the choir of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, he studied early music vocal performance at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, receiving a Master of Music degree in 2005. Matt Baker (1955 – 2017) was an American Quarter Horse trainer and jockey. Early life Maddox "Matt" Lafayette Baker was born on March 26, 1955, in Columbus, Georgia and died on February 7, 2017. He grew up in Texas, graduating from Deer Park High School in 1974. As a teenager he was a jockey in east Texas and began his training career shortly thereafter. Racing career Based in Louisiana and Texas, from 1974 to 2007 Baker saddled 4,088 horses, compiling a record of 790 wins, including 17 stakes victories in Texas and Louisiana. Matthew Christopher J. Baker (born 18 December 1979) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He stood as a Conservative council candidate in Leeds in 2010 but was not elected. Football career Baker comes from Leeds, and played for four years with Leeds City Boys. He was originally on the books of Leeds United as a schoolboy. However, he was signed as an apprentice at Hull City in 1996 and progressed through the youth ranks and turned professional in 1998. Matthew Baker (born 6 February 2003) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Newport County and the Wales under-21 national team. Club career Baker progressed through the Gillingham youth system and signed for Stoke City in June 2021. He moved on loan to Newport County in January 2023 for the remainder of the 2022–23 season.
