Matt Villis
Matthew Villis (born 13 April 1984) is an English footballer who played for Taunton Town as a centre back, having previously played for Bridgwater Town, Plymouth Argyle, Torquay United, Weston-Super-Mare, Tiverton Town, Bideford and Yate Town Career Villis began his career as a junior with Bridgwater Town before signing as a trainee with Plymouth Argyle, turning professional in July 2003. He then joined Torquay United on a season-long loan deal in July 2004, making his league debut as an early substitute for Lee Canoville in a 4–2 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday. He went on to play 22 times that season as Torquay unsuccessfully battled against relegation from Division Two. He was released by Plymouth at the end of the season and joined Torquay on a free transfer in June 2005. Bridgwater
Bridgwater is a large historic market town and civil parish in Somerset, England. Its population currently stands at around 41,276 as of 2022. Bridgwater is at the edge of the Somerset Levels, in level and well-wooded country. The town lies along both sides of the River Parrett; it has been a major inland port and trading centre since the industrial revolution. Most of its industrial bases still stand today. Its larger neighbour, Taunton, is linked to Bridgwater via a canal, the M5 motorway and the GWR railway line. Historically, the town had a politically radical tendency. The Battle of Sedgemoor, where the Monmouth Rebellion was finally crushed in 1685, was fought nearby. Notable buildings include the Church of St Mary and Blake Museum, which is a largely restored house in Blake Street and was the birthplace of Admiral Blake in 1598. John Cornforth (footballer)
John Michael Cornforth (born 7 October 1967) is a former Wales international football player and is now a coach. Originally from Whitley Bay in the north-east of England, Cornforth and his family have been settled in Devon for some time. Cornforth is currently assistant manager at Northern Premier side Blyth Spartans. Playing career Cornforth usually appeared in midfield during his playing days. He made a total of 322 starts for his various clubs over his career, scoring 36 goals in the process. Whilst at Swansea City he was a part of the team that won after a penalty shootout in the 1994 Football League Trophy Final. At one point he commanded a transfer fee of £350,000, in his 1996 transfer from Swansea to Birmingham City. His four-and-a-half years and nearly 200 games for Swansea led him to declare himself "a true Jack". Weston-super-Mare AFC
Weston-super-Mare Association Football Club is a semi-professional football club based in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England. Nicknamed "The Seagulls", the club is affiliated to the Somerset County Football Association and currently competes in the Southern Premier South, the seventh tier of English football. The club was founded in 1887 but disbanded twice (for the two World Wars); the current club was established in 1948. Their claim to fame was that they have had never been relegated in their history, although after their promotion to the sixth tier in 2004 they had been reprieved from relegation three times (in 2007, 2008 and 2010), they were eventually relegated for the first time in 132 years in the 2018/19 season. The team's best performance in the FA Cup came in 2003–04 when they reached the second round of the competition.
