Matt Ruebel
Matthew Alexander Ruebel (born October 16, 1969) is a former American Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1996 to 1998. Amateur career A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ruebel attended Ames High School and the University of Oklahoma. In 1988, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and returned to the league in 1989 to play for the Harwich Mariners. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum.
