Matt Johnson (singer)
Matt Johnson (born 15 August 1961) is an English singer-songwriter best known as the vocalist and only constant member of his band The The. He is also a film soundtrack composer (Cineola), publisher (Fifty First State Press), broadcaster (Radio Cineola), and conservationist/local activist. Early life Johnson grew up with his three brothers, Eugene, Andrew (the artist Andy Dog Johnson), and Gerard, in East London. Much of his youth was spent in or around the Two Puddings, a London pub run by his family over the course of 40 years. Music career In 1979, Johnson placed an advert in ''NME'' looking for like-minded fans of the Velvet Underground, the Residents and Throbbing Gristle to form a band with him. Johnny Marr
Johnny Marr (born John Martin Maher, 31 October 1963) is an English musician, songwriter and singer. He first achieved fame as the guitarist and co-songwriter of the Smiths, who were active from 1982 to 1987. He has since performed with numerous other bands and embarked on a solo career. Born in Manchester, to Irish parents, Marr formed his first band at the age of 13. He was part of several bands with Andy Rourke before forming the Smiths with Morrissey in 1982. The Smiths attained commercial success and were critically acclaimed, with Marr's jangle pop guitar style becoming distinctive of the band's sound, but separated in 1987 due to personal differences between Marr and Morrissey. ''NakedSelf'' is a 2000 album by the British band The The. It was the band's first album since '' Hanky Panky'' (1995) and the first containing original material since ''Dusk'' (1993). In terms of sales, it was the band's least successful until that point, peaking at 45 in the UK Album Chart. As of 2020, it is the most recent studio album by The The, except for three soundtracks. ''Hanky Panky'' is the fifth studio album by English band The The, released on 14 February 1995. It consists of cover versions of country singer Hank Williams' songs. It reached No. 28 on the UK Albums Chart. Matt Johnson intended ''Hanky Panky'' to be the first of many albums he would record covering the work of iconic musicians. Johnson provided the liner notes to ''Alone and Forsaken'', a compilation of Williams demos that was also released in 1995. Production Johnson originally planned to record an EP, and then a standard tribute album, with many musicians interpreting songs, before settling on an album of covers. Eric Schermerhorn played guitar on the album. Some songs contain only voice and harmonium. The band was more interested in retaining the meaning of the songs rather than producing musical copies of them. "Your Cheatin' Heart" was performed in a rockabilly style. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. ''Burning Blue Soul'' is the debut album released by Matt Johnson (singer), Matt Johnson in 1981. The album is commonly regarded as an accomplished debut, with a mix of guitar riffs, tape loops, experimental electronics and heavily filtered vocals.
