Matt Brown (Canadian Politician)
Matthew Brown is a Canadian politician who served as the 63rd mayor of London from 2014 and 2018. Background Brown was born in London, Ontario in 1973. He grew up in Woodstock before graduating from the University of Waterloo. He has two sons. Mayoralty In the 2014 mayoral race, he defeated runner up Paul Cheng. Prior to his election to the mayoralty, Brown represented Ward 7 on London City Council. As mayor, Brown oversaw the planning phase of the controversial Shift bus rapid transit (BRT) network, on which construction began after his term as mayor. In a 2017 episode of the television series ''Political Blind Date'', Brown and Giorgio Mammoliti discussed their differing perspectives on the issue of safe injection sites. Originally, mayors were elected on January 1 for one-year terms. ''Political Blind Date'' is a Canadian television program, which premiered on TVOntario in 2017. The series pairs two Canadian politicians with different ideological beliefs in a "blind date" situation to discuss their perspectives on a political issue; participants are not informed of who they're being paired with until they arrive to begin taping. The participants may already be professionally acquainted with their "date," sometimes even serving in the same political body, but typically do not already know each other very well outside of work, and thus may not previously have had an opportunity to discuss their political perspectives with each other in a non-partisan and non-adversarial way. CFPL is a radio station owned by Corus Entertainment and based in London, Ontario, Canada. Transmitter power is 10,000 watts daytime, 5,000 watts nighttime. Broadcast frequency is 980 AM. CFPL uses a four-tower directional antenna with differing patterns during the day and night. The station primarily airs news, and talk programming, as well as London Knights hockey and Toronto Blue Jays games. The studios are located in downtown London, while its transmitter is located south of London at Wellington Road and Scotland Drive. CBCL-FM is a Canadian radio station in London, Ontario, broadcasting at 93.5 FM. It is the city's CBC Radio One station. Their studio is located in downtown London in the Central branch of the London Public Library while its transmitter is located near Byron in West London. History The station was launched in 1978. Prior to its launch, CBC Radio programming was aired on private affiliate CFPL. CBCL started out as a rebroadcaster of CBL Toronto, but was granted a separate licence in 1998. Safe Injection Site
Supervised injection sites (SIS) are medically supervised facilities designed to provide a hygienic environment in which people are able to consume illicit recreational drugs intravenously and prevent deaths due to drug overdoses. The legality of such a facility is dependent by location and political jurisdiction. Supervised injection sites are part of a harm reduction approach towards drug problems. The facilities provide sterile injection equipment, information about drugs and basic health care, treatment referrals, access to medical staff, and, at some facilities, counseling. Most programs prohibit the sale or purchase of recreational drugs at the facility.
