Matt Barlow
Matthew Barlow (born March 10, 1971) is an American heavy metal singer. He is the lead singer for Ashes of Ares and former lead singer of Iced Earth and Pyramaze. He is Jon Schaffer's brother-in-law. History Barlow joined Iced Earth after the ''Night of the Stormrider'' tour with Blind Guardian in Europe, as a replacement for John Greely. The first album Barlow can be heard on is '' Burnt Offerings'' (1995). Barlow left the band in 2003, much to the chagrin of many fans. His reason for leaving was due to personal beliefs related to the September 11 terrorist attacks. He took a look at his life and realized that he wanted to contribute to the "real world" instead of living the illusion of a "rock star." He approached Jon Schaffer with this in late 2002, but Schaffer, known for his persuasive personality, convinced Barlow to stay with the band. When the band recorded ''The Glorious Burden'', Schaffer decided that Barlow's vocals were not what he desired them to be; he believed they ...

''Alive in Athens'' is a live album by American heavy metal band Iced Earth. It was recorded on the nights of January 23 and January 24, 1999, in front of sold-out crowds of approximately 2000 people (on both nights) at the Rodon Club in Athens, Greece. Iced Earth was supporting the '' Something Wicked This Way Comes'' album and were on tour. It was turned into a single DVD, and released in October 2006. The album features the return of former drummer Brent Smedley, who did not record on the band's previous album. At the conclusion of "Violate", the band plays the opening riff of "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden. "Colors" was also played at this concert, but was not included on the CD due to a track listing mix-up. It is, however, included on the reissue of ''The Melancholy E.P.''. Next to the CD version, there also exists a vinyl box version. It was released in 1999 and contained five pictures of the band's albums. One had the Alive in Athens artwork, the other ones had the Night ...

Horror Show (album)
''Horror Show'' is the sixth studio album from the American heavy metal band Iced Earth, released June 26, 2001. It is a concept album based on classic monsters and horror-movie icons, including Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Phantom. It was the first Iced Earth album to feature drummer Richard Christy, and the only album to feature Steve Di Giorgio on bass, though he did not tour with the band. ''Horror Show'' is usually considered Iced Earth's only straightforward power metal release, as little of the thrash metal influence from the band's earlier works is present. This album also featured more prominent usage of Matt Barlow's multi-layered vocals as a center point for the songs. There was a special limited-edition two-disc set. The second disc included the instrumental track, "Transylvania", an Iron Maiden cover, along with an interview with bandleader/rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer. There is also a single-disc version with "Transylvania", but without the interview. The song ...

Something Wicked This Way Comes (Iced Earth Album)
''Something Wicked This Way Comes'' is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Iced Earth. Released on June 22, 1998, it was the band's first album to feature bassist James MacDonough and guitarist Larry Tarnowski, and is the only Iced Earth album to be solely produced by Jim Morris, who has worked with the band since 1996's ''The Dark Saga''. Recorded in March 1998, ''Something Wicked This Way Comes'' introduced Jon Schaffer's fictional story Something Wicked Saga, which would be later expanded upon by the band. The song "Watching Over Me" was written as a tribute to Schaffer's deceased childhood friend Bill Blackmon, who inspired the name "Iced Earth". The album received mixed reviews; it was noted as significantly "heavier" than its predecessor, ''The Dark Saga''. It charted in Germany and Austria. During the album's supporting tour, the band recorded their first live album, entitled ''Alive in Athens''. Background As with the band's previous album, ''The Dark Sag ...

Days Of Purgatory
''Days of Purgatory'' is a heavy metal album by Iced Earth. It is a collection of remixes and remakes from previous albums, with the exception of their then-recent record ''The Dark Saga''. Most of the songs from the '' Enter the Realm'' EP, ''Iced Earth'', and ''Night of the Stormrider'' were re-sung by Matt Barlow, and on some of the songs the drums and bass were redone. The 2- CD version also has rough mixes of several songs from '' Burnt Offerings'' with the opening to the title track re-recorded. The album cover features artwork of the Chaos Comics character Purgatori. The reason for the album was to improve the original songs, create nostalgia for older fans and introduce newer fans to Iced Earth's older work. The 2- CD limited edition was originally produced for European audiences but has since been released in the United States. ''Days of Purgatory'' was the last new release from the band featuring longtime guitarist Randall Shawver, and the first to feature bassist Ja ...

The Dark Saga
''The Dark Saga'' is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Iced Earth. Released on May 20, 1996, it was the band's first album to feature drummer Mark Prator, as well as the last with bassist Dave Abell and lead guitarist Randall Shawver. ''The Dark Saga'' was also the first Iced Earth album to be co-produced by Jim Morris, who since then has worked on all of the band's releases. Recorded in early 1996, ''The Dark Saga'' is a concept album based on the Todd McFarlane comic book character Spawn (who also appears on the album's cover). Because of this, the album features a much more melodic and simplified sound compared to other Iced Earth albums. While the response to ''The Dark Saga'' was mostly positive, some viewed these musical changes as a disappointment. Writing and recording Musically ''The Dark Saga'' is much more melodic and simplified compared to Iced Earth's previous albums (majority of the songs on ''The Dark Saga'' are under four minutes long).
