Matinhos
Matinhos is a municipality in Brazil that arose in 1920s. It is considered the "Girlfriend of Paraná" as the date of its emancipation was June 12, Lovers' Day in Brazil. History The colonization of Matinhos started in the mid-19th century, when the Carijó Indians used to live in the coastal part of Paraná, discovered in 1820 by a French explorer named Augustin Saint-Hilaire. The first name was Matinho, after a river in town, and the first colonists were Portuguese and Italians, who founded an agricultural colony. In 1927 the "sea road" was inaugurated, connecting Paranaguá and Praia de Leste (Pontal do Paraná). It brought many families, mostly German, including the family of Augusto Blitzkow, responsible for the urbanization of Caiobá. In August 1931 the region received a visit from the governor of Paraná, Carlos Cavalcanti, who went from Paranaguá to Caiobá in a waggon. The Rio da Onça State Park ( pt, Parque Estadual Florestal do Rio da Onça) is a State park (Brazil), State park in the state of Paraná (state), Paraná, Brazil. Location The Rio da Onça State Park is in the center of the municipality of Matinhos, Paraná, and covers . It is accessed by PR 412, Balneário Riviera II. The park has a portal, interpretive trails, suspended bridges, visitor center and belvedere. Trails start from the visitor center and are well marked and on flat ground, with explanatory signs. There are bridges over flooded areas. The Bromeliads Lookout is the main observation point, where plants, animals, butterflies and bromeliads can be observed. From the belvedere visitors can view the formation of the tops of the trees. The Rio da Onça State Park was created by state decree 3825 of 4 June 1984 with an area of , later expanded to .
