"Mathletics" is the third single by Foals. It peaked at number 109 on the UK singles chart. It was released as a digital download and on vinyl on 20 August 2007. It was recorded and mixed by producer Gareth Parton at the Fortress and Strongroom recording studios. The song was used in promotional advertisements on the UK channel Fiver. The track received generally positive reviews. Although initially released as a non-album single, it was added as a bonus track to later editions of Foals's debut album, ''Antidotes An antidote is a substance that can counteract a form of poisoning. Foals, stylised as FOALS, are a British rock band formed in Oxford in 2005. The band's current line-up consists of Greek-born lead vocalist and guitarist Yannis Philippakis, drummer and percussionist Jack Bevan and rhythm guitarist Jimmy Smith. They are currently signed to Warner Records, and have released seven studio albums to date: '' Antidotes'' (2008), ''Total Life Forever'' (2010), ''Holy Fire'' (2013), ''What Went Down'' (2015), and ''Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1'' & 2 (2019) and their most recent, ''Life Is Yours'' (2022). Math Rock
Math rock is a style of progressive and indie rock with roots in bands such as King Crimson and Rush as well as 20th-century minimal music composers such as Steve Reich. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), counterpoint, odd time signatures, angular melodies, and extended, often dissonant, chords. Transgressive Records is an independent record label based in London, formed in 2004. Its founders, Tim Dellow and Toby L, first met at a Bloc Party gig organised by Toby's Rockfeedback website. The label's debut release was "1am" by the Subways in September 2004, quickly followed by singles from Mystery Jets, the Young Knives and Regina Spektor. Yannis Philippakis (Greek: Ιωάννης "Γιάννης" Φιλιππάκης) (born 23 April 1986) is the lead singer and guitarist of the British indie rock band Foals. Early life Born to a Greek father and a South African Jewish mother, Philippakis lived in Greece until he was 4 years old when his family moved to South Africa. After living there for a year, his parents divorced. Every summer Philippakis would visit his father in Olympos on the Greek island Karpathos. His father played a significant role in his life regarding music, teaching him traditional Greek songs. Philippakis was raised in the Greek Orthodox religion. Education Philippakis was educated at Magdalen College School. There he had met all of the requirements for an assisted place at Magdalen, where he had taken classes on French, literature, and art. It was recorded and mixed by producer Gareth Parton at the Fortress and Metropolis recording studios, London. It was released as a digital download and on vinyl on 23 April 2007. Although initially released as a non-album single, it was added as a bonus track to later editions of Foals' first album ''Antidotes''. The song was used in the second series of '' Skins''. It was released on 24 March 2008 in the United Kingdom on Transgressive Records, and on 8 April 2008 in the United States through Sub Pop. The album's themes are varied and cryptic, but are generally melancholic and focused on relationships.
