MathChallengers
MathChallengers is the former Mathcounts in British Columbia. It is open to all grade 8, 9, and 10 students from British Columbia. The major sponsors are the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (APEGBC), the B.C. Association of Mathematics Teachers (BCAMT), BC Hydro, and IBM Canada. Rules The Competition consists of 4 stages. Stages 1 and 2 are individual competitions. Stage 3 is a Team competition. Stage 4 is a one-on-one competition between the top 10 individuals who participated in stages 1 and 2. Math Challengers competitions may consist of the following rounds: Stage 1: "Blitz" Stage 1 consists of one session on a variety of mathematical subjects. Participants will be allowed to work for 40 minutes on 26 questions written on four pages (each correct answer will count as one point). Mathcounts
Mathcounts, stylized as MATHCOUNTS, is a nationwide middle school mathematics competition held in various places in the United States. Its current lead sponsors are Raytheon Technologies and the U.S. Department of Defense STEM. Topics covered include geometry, counting, probability, number theory, and algebra. History Mathcounts was started in 1983 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and CNA Insurance to increase middle school interest in mathematics. The first national-level competition was held in 1984. The competition spread quickly in middle schools, and today it is the best-known middle school mathematics competition. In 2007 Mathcounts launched the National Math Club Program and in 2011 Mathcounts launched the Math Video Challenge Program. 2020 was the first year since 1984 where a national competition was not held, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Burnaby North Secondary School
Burnaby North Secondary School is a secondary school in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. It encompasses two buildings at 751 Hammarskjold Drive in Burnaby. Nearly 1,800 students from grades 8 to 12 attend the school. A statue of a Viking head, the mascot of the school's sports teams, stands in front of the two buildings. University Hill Secondary School
University Hill Secondary School (generally known as U-Hill or Uhill) is a public secondary school in the neighbourhood of Wesbrook Place in Point Grey Campus, just west of the University Endowment Lands and the city limits of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. History University Hill School began as a kindergarten to grade 12 school in September, 1927, on the site of what is now University Hill Elementary School. The K-12 school remained on that site until 1954, when the secondary school split from the elementary school and was built on a site on Acadia Road. Burnaby Mountain Secondary School
Burnaby Mountain Secondary School is in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. It is three stories and located at 8800 Eastlake Drive, at the intersection with Beaverbrook Drive. Eric Hamber Secondary School is a public secondary school located in the South Cambie neighbourhood of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Eric Hamber is a comprehensive secondary school with approximately 1400 students. Each year, approximately 70% of the senior class graduate with honours standing. Current Leadership program The school offers a special program called the ''Leadership Program'', where students develop leadership skills, are involved around the community, and set goals for the future. Transition UBC
The Transition Program for Gifted Students, often called the University Transition Program (UTP), is an accelerated secondary school program for gifted students funded by the BC Ministry of Education's Provincial Resource Program with hosting, educational support and financial assistance from the University of British Columbia (UBC), and administered by the Vancouver School Board in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Each year, the program accepts around 20 new students between the ages 12 and 15, half of which are from outside the Vancouver School Board. Over the course of two years, students complete required five year high school curriculum along with some university coursework. Burnaby South Secondary School
Burnaby South Secondary is a public high school in Burnaby, British Columbia, and it serves the South Slope, Burnaby neighbourhood, and Southern Burnaby. It is one of the eight high schools within School District 41 Burnaby. Burnaby South currently contains approximately 1700 students. History Today, students attending Burnaby South go to school in a modern building constructed in 1993 at 5455 Rumble Street. The first Burnaby South Secondary school opened with 175 students in 1922 at 6626 Kingsway, in an old building built in 1913 that previously served as Kingsway East Elementary school.
