Matfors IF is a Swedish football club located in Matfors. Background Matfors Idrottsförening is a Swedish sports club situated in Matfors in Sundsvall Municipality, Västernorrland County. It was founded in 1901 under the name of Thule skidklubb (Thule Skiing club). In 1916 the name was changed to Matfors IF. Matfors
Matfors is a locality situated in Sundsvall Municipality, Västernorrland County, Sweden with 3,201 inhabitants in 2010. The river Ljungan runs through Matfors. It is situated about 15 kilometers west of Sundsvall, a city with about 45,000 inhabitants. In Matfors there used to be two schools: Sköle Skola and Matfors Skola, both sharing the same school yard; they later rejoined to form Matfors Skola in 2009 after being split up in 2002. Matfors is said to have got its name from the rich supply of salmon (Swedish: lax) in the river Ljungan, by which the town was built. The name Matfors consists of two parts: mat (food) and fors (river stream). Matfors was for some time its own community/municipality (Swedish: kommun) but then first merged with Attmar and later Sundsvall (beginning of the 1970s). Division 4 is the sixth level in the league system of Swedish football and comprises 39 sections with 8 to 12 football teams in each. The competition There are 39 groups of 8 to 12 teams each representing a local geographical area. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October) each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 18 to 22 games depending on the number of teams. The top team in each Division 4 group is promoted to Division 3 and the three lowest placed teams from each Division 3 league are relegated in their place. Friska Viljor FC
Friska Viljor FC is a Swedish football club located in Örnsköldsvik in Örnsköldsvik Municipality, Västernorrland County. Background The club was formed in February 1994 but was previously the football section of the multi-sport club IF Friska Viljor. From 1995 to 1998 the new club progressed through the league system from Division 6 to Division 2. In 2003 the club won Division 2 Norrland and then participated in the promotion play-offs. They won 4–3 away to Väsby IK FK and then lost 2–3 at home but were promoted to the Superettan on away goals. Second tier football in the Superettan in 2004 proved a disappointment as Friska Viljor finished in last place and were relegated. In subsequent years Friska Viljor FC has participated in the middle divisions of the Swedish football league system.
