Masters Of Harmony
Founded in 1985 with just a few dozen men, the Masters of Harmony is a 110-member men's chorus, based in Greater Los Angeles, California. Winner of eight consecutive gold medals (1990–2011) in international barbershop chorus competitions, the group possesses a diverse repertoire encompassing not only barbershop music but also classical, jazz, patriotic, sacred, standards and Broadway pops, and sings for various groups and organizations throughout the greater Los Angeles, California metropolitan area. The chorus won another barbershop international competition in 2017, bringing their total gold medal count to nine. List Of Chorus Champions By Year
This page lists the Barbershop Harmony Society's international chorus champions by the year within which they won. Choruses are eligible to win any number of times but must sit out for two years after they win. The only non-U.S. choruses to win this championship were The Dukes Of Harmony (1977 & 1980) and the Toronto Northern Lights (2013), both from Canada. The Dallas-based Vocal Majority has won this competition a record 13 times. Ambassadors Of Harmony
The Ambassadors of Harmony (''AOH'') is a 120+ member men's barbershop chorus, based in St. Charles, Missouri. The chorus won International Championship gold medals in 2004, 2009, and 2012 – each time singing two arrangements by David Wright, under the direction of Dr. Jim Henry – and then again in 2016, under the co-direction of Jonny Moroni and Dr. Henry. Their 2009 victory broke a nearly three-decade winning streak by the Vocal Majority.Winning choruses are required to sit out of competition for two years. The Vocal Majority did not compete in 2004. Noted for its crisp choreography and its broad demographics, the chorus continues to expand its reputation as a premier arts organization while expanding audience engagement. Gotcha! (quartet)
''Gotcha!'' is an American barbershop quartet formed in 1996 by four members of the Masters of Harmony chorus. ''Gotcha!'' became the international champions of the Barbershop Harmony Society in 2004 after six previous attempts at the title. Baritone Alan Gordon became a member of SPEBSQSA (now BHS) when he was 10 years old. He has achieved much in the barbershop world, including becoming a singing judge. In addition to having been assistant director of the Masters of Harmony Chorus and their baritone section leader, he directed the Verdugo Hills Chorus at their Sweet Adelines International competition. He is a Master Director in SAI. Bass Jim Kline had previously achieved many non-gold medals with SPEBSQSA, most of them with the 139th Street Quartet, which was frequently featured on television—including appearances on "Night Court" and "Cheers". Michigan Jake
Michigan Jake was a barbershop quartet that formed in 1995. The quartet borrowed the name from Michigan J. Frog, the singing frog in the 1955 Merrie Melodies short ''One Froggy Evening''. The original line-up comprised the section leaders of the ''Louisville Times'' chorus of Louisville, Kentucky. After a few changes in the line-up, Michigan Jake won the 2001 International Quartet Contest in Nashville. They announced their retirement on July 1, 2004. Revival (quartet)
Revival was a barbershop quartet that won the 1998 SPEBSQSA international competition, after placing 15th in 1996 and 9th in 1997. Primarily from the San Diego area, the quartet was founded in the summer of 1995 and soon progressed in barbershop quartet competitions. After earning the title of 1997 Far Western District Champions, Revival went on to become the 1998 International Quartet Champions on July 4, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia. Revival performed for over 400,000 people in 38 states and 5 countries, and appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and BBC television and radio stations. OC Times is a male barbershop quartet affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society. They earned second place silver medals at the International Barbershop Quartet Contest at Denver's Pepsi Center on July 7, 2007, and won the International Quartet Championship on July 5, 2008, in Nashville, Tennessee. The quartet combines traditional barbershop harmonies with contemporary music styles. The music of OC Times is inspired by artists like Michael Buble, Sinatra, and Elvis.
