Massachusetts Route 47
Route 47 is a north–south state highway in the Pioneer Valley region of the U.S. state of Massachusetts. Its southern terminus is at Route 116 in South Hadley and its northern terminus is at Route 63 in Montague. Route description Route 47 begins at Route 116 in South Hadley near the northwest corner of the Mount Holyoke College campus. It heads northwestward towards the southwest corner of Hadley, crossing into that town near the Hockanum Flat, a bend in the Connecticut River. It then follows within half a mile of the river before turning onto Middle Street, crossing through the town center and intersecting Route 9 just over a mile east of the Calvin Coolidge Bridge into Northampton. Route 47 turns right when Middle Street meets the river again, following the river's path into the North Hadley section of town, passing the Porter-Phelps-Huntington House and the North Hadley Sugar Shack along the way. Sunderland Bridge (Massachusetts)
The Sunderland Bridge is a crossing over the Connecticut River in western Massachusetts, connecting the towns of South Deerfield and Sunderland, carrying Massachusetts Route 116. History and construction of the bridge There was at least one preceding bridge at this location, a metal through-truss bridge destroyed by the floating Montague City Covered Bridge during the Flood of 1936. The current Sunderland Bridge is a deck truss bridge completed in 1937. Reconstruction of the bridge was completed in 1994. The Calvin Coolidge Memorial Bridge is a major crossing of the Connecticut River in western Massachusetts, connecting the towns of Northampton and Hadley. The bridge carries Route 9 across the river, where it connects to Interstate 91. History and construction of the bridge The Calvin Coolidge Memorial Bridge is a five-span, single intersection Warren deck truss bridge with distinctive design on its granite-faced abutment pylons. Route 9 is a major east–west state highway in Massachusetts. Along with U.S. Route 20 (US 20), Route 2, and Interstate 90, Route 9 is one of the major east–west routes of Massachusetts. The western terminus is near the center of the city of Pittsfield. After winding through the small towns along the passes of the Berkshire Mountains, it crosses the college towns of the Pioneer Valley and then south of the Quabbin Reservoir and the rural areas of western Worcester County. Route 63 is a state highway in Massachusetts, United States, running from Route 116 in Amherst north to the New Hampshire state line in Northfield, where it continues as New Hampshire Route 63.
