Mazu or Matsu is a Chinese sea goddess also known by several other names and titles. She is the deified form of the legendary figure Lin Mo or Lin Moniang, a Fujianese shamaness whose life span is traditionally dated from 960 to 987. Revered after her death as a tutelary deity of seafarers, including fishermen and sailors, her worship spread throughout China's coastal regions and overseas Chinese communities throughout Southeast Asia and overseas, where some Mazuist temples are affiliated with famous Taiwanese temples. She was thought to roam the seas, protecting her believers through miraculous interventions. She is now generally regarded by her believers as a powerful and a benevolent Queen of Heaven. Maso di Banco (working ''c'' 1335–1350) was an Italian painter of the 14th century, who worked in Florence, Italy. He and Taddeo Gaddi were the most prominent Florentine pupils of Giotto di Bondone, exploring the three-dimensional dramatic realism inaugurated by Giotto. Maso's name and work are known to us from Lorenzo Ghiberti's autobiographical ''I Commentari,'' which identifies frescoes in the chapel of the Holy Confessors at Santa Croce, Florence as his chief work.Giorgio Vasari confused Maso with Maso di Stephano, called "Giottino". The frescoes, not signed or dated but probably ''c'' 1340, represent scenes from the ''Life of St. Sylvester'' (Pope Sylvester I), the ''Last Judgment,'' and ''The Entombment''. Maso da San Friano (1536–1571) was an Italian painter active in Florence. His real name was Tomaso D'Antonio Manzuoli. He was born in San Friano and died in Florence. According to Giorgio Vasari, Maso was a pupil of Pier Francesco Foschi while others claim it was Carlo Portelli. He collaborated with an elder Michelangelo on some projects. His altarpiece of the ''Visitation'' was painted in 1560 for the church of San Pier Maggiore, Florence - now in Trinity Hall Chapel, Cambridge, England. A similar work can be seen in the Prato cathedral. After 1561, he painted in the church of Ognissanti, Florence and in the church of Santa Felicita. He participated in the decoration of the Studiolo of Francesco I with an oval canvas relating the ''Fall of Icarus'' story (1572). Maso Tommasoii Finiguerra (1426–1464) was an Italian goldsmith, niellist, draftsman, and engraver working in Florence, who was incorrectly described by Giorgio Vasari as the inventor of engraving as a printmaking technique. This made him a crucial figure in the history of old master prints and remained widely believed until the early twentieth century. However, it was gradually realised that Vasari's view, like many of his assertions as to the origins of technical advances, could not be sustained. Typically, Vasari had overstated the importance of a fellow-Florentine, and a fellow-Italian, since it is now clear that engraving developed in Germany before Italy. Carole Maso is a contemporary American novelist and essayist, known for her experimental, poetic and fragmentary narratives which are often called postmodern. She is a recipient of a 1993 Lannan Literary Award for Fiction. Biography Maso was born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1955, the child of her jazz musician father and her emergency department nurse mother. She received a B.A. in English from Vassar College in 1977. Maso initially wanted to be a journalist when she entered Vassar, but she later decided to focus on creative writing instead. She began working on her novel ''Ghost Dance'' while she was still a student. During her senior year at Vassar, she submitted about 50 pages of prose poems as her senior honors thesis. Pedro Masó Paulet (born 26 January 1927 in Madrid; died 23 September 2008 in Madrid) was a Spanish director, producer, and scriptwriter. His relation with the cinema began at an early age when he was employed as a boy in the Estudios Chamartín in Madrid. There he performed many jobs, until he was made chief of production in 1953. In 1962 he founded his own production company, Pedro Masó Producciones Cinematográficas, with which he produced some of the biggest commercial successes of Spanish film, including '' Atraco a las tres'', '' Vacaciones para Ivette'', '' Un millón a la basura'' and '' La familia bien, gracias''.
