Masked Emotions
''Masked Emotions'' is a 1929 American silent adventure crime drama film produced and distributed by Fox Film Corporation starring George O'Brien and Nora Lane. The screenplay was adapted from Ben Ames Williams' short story ''Son of Anak''. David Butler began as director but had to leave the production to attend to a family emergency, and Kenneth Hawks then assumed directorial duties. The Western Electric Sound System was used for the musical score and sound effects but a silent version of the film was also released. Plot Set on the Maine coast, a young sloop skipper Bramdlet Dickery discovers a plot to smuggle alien Chinese into the United States. Bramdlet's younger brother Thad is enamored with daughter of the captain of the smuggling ship. A struggle over the smuggling ensues. Kenneth Hawks
Kenneth Neil Hawks (August 12, 1898 – January 2, 1930) was an American film director and producer. Life and career Hawks served in the United States Army Air Service during World War I. He then graduated from Yale University in 1919. He soon moved to Hollywood, California with brother Howard Hawks; He became a writer, editor and supervisor at Fox Films Corporation in 1926. He began directing films for Fox in 1929. He was supervising producer of the Fox documentary film ''True Heaven'' (1929). On January 2, 1930, while directing filming of aerial scenes for the film '' Such Men Are Dangerous'', he was killed in a mid-air plane crash over the Pacific Ocean along with 9 others: pilot Walter Ross Cook, cameraman George Eastman, assistant director Ben Frankel, assistant director Max Gold, Tom Harris, Harry Johannes, Otho Jordan, pilot Halleck Rouse, and cinematographer Conrad Wells (also known as Abraham Fried). David Sharpe (actor)
David Hardin Sharpe (February 2, 1910 – March 30, 1980) was an American actor and stunt performer, sometimes billed as ''Davy Sharpe''. Biography Sharpe won the US National Tumbling Championship in 1925 and 1926. He began his film career as a child actor in the 1920s. He was married for a short time to film actress Gertrude Messinger. Eventually he became the "Ramrod" (stunt coordinator) for Republic Pictures from 1939 until mid-1942 when the USA entered World War II. He was replaced in this role by Tom Steele while Sharpe joined the Army Air Corps in 1943. Death Sharpe died in 1980, aged 70, of Lou Gehrig's disease (some sources cited Parkinson's disease).
