Masjid Tentera Diraja
The Tentera Diraja Mosque'' ( ms, Masjid Tentera Diraja; Jawi alphabet, Jawi: مسجد تنترا دراج) is a single story old-generation mosque located off Clementi Road in Clementi, Singapore, Clementi Woods, Singapore. Located opposite National University of Singapore, the mosque is iconic for its hilltop location and gold painted dome. History Built on the top of Clementi Hill in 1961 by the Muslims who served for the British Army after World War II. It was named ''Tentera Di-Raja'' (Malay Language, Malay for Royal Army) in honor of the British Army (Due to the name, the mosque has been erroneously and mistaken by worshippers to be owned by the Malaysian government). The mosque was officially opened by Yang di-Pertuan Negara, Yusof Ishak on 30 March 1962. There are 72 mosques in Singapore. Almost all the mosques in Singapore are administered by Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura, with the exception of Masjid Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim which is administered by the Malaysian state of Johor. Practitioners of Islam make up about 15.6% of Singapore's residents, according to the 2020 census. Islam is the third largest religion in the country, after Buddhism and Christianity. Yusof Ishak
Yusof bin Ishak (12 August 191023 November 1970) was a Singaporean politician and journalist who served as the first president of Singapore from 1965 until his death in 1970. Prior to becoming head of state, Yusof was a well-known journalist who co-founded ''Utusan Melayu'', a daily newspaper that was in circulation until 9 October 2019. He started journalism after graduating from Raffles Institution in 1929, and joined ''Warta Malaya'', a well-known Malay newspaper company, in 1932. He left the company in 1938 and co-founded ''Utusan Melayu''. Yusof held many appointments within the Singapore Government.
