Mashike Station
was a railway station on the Rumoi Main Line in Mashike, Hokkaido, Japan, operated by Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido). The station closed on 4 December 2016. Lines Mashike Station was the terminus of the Rumoi Main Line from . The station was unstaffed. Adjacent stations History The station opened on 5 November 1921. On 10 August 2015, JR Hokkaido announced its plans to close the 16.7 km section of the line beyond Rumoi to Mashike in 2016. In April 2016, it was officially announced that the section from Rumoi to Mashike would be closing in December 2016, with the last services operating on 4 December. The is one of the constituent companies of the Japan Railways Group (JR Group), and is often referred to using its official abbreviation of . It operates intercity and local rail services in Hokkaido, Japan. The company introduced Kitaca, a smart card ticketing system, in autumn 2008. At the time of its privatization in 1987, JR Hokkaido operated 21 railway lines totalling of narrow-gauge () track, as well as a ferry service to Aomori. Since then, that figure has dwindled to just below , as unprofitable lines have been shut down or spun off (in the case of the Hokkaidō Chihoku Kōgen Railway). Rumoi Main Line
The is a Japanese railway line in Hokkaido operated by Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido) which connects Fukagawa Station in Fukagawa and Rumoi Station in Rumoi. Until the section of the Hidaka Main Line from to was closed on 1 April 2021, following storm damage in January 2015, the Rumoi Main Line was the shortest railway line in Japan, to be classified as a 'main line'. Mashike, Hokkaido
is a town located in Rumoi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. As of September 2016, the town has an estimated population of 4,634 and a density of 13 persons per km2. The total area is 369.64 km2. Mashike's main distinction is the sake brewery Kunimare, which is well known throughout Hokkaido. Mashike also has several fruit farms, and it is easy to buy directly from the farmers. Mashike was the terminus of the JR Hokkaido Rumoi Main Line which ran from , but the section of the line between and was closed on 4 December 2016, owing to declining passenger use. Mashike has a small ski resort with only two lifts, although it is the biggest one in Rumoi District.
