''Mascots'' (german: Mascottchen) is a 1929 German silent film directed by Felix Basch and starring Käthe von Nagy, Jeanne Helbling, and Muriel Angelus. It is based on an operetta by Walter Bromme and Georg Okonkowski. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Otto Erdmann and Hans Sohnle. Felix Basch
Felix Basch (1885–1944) was an American-Austrian actor, screenwriter and film director. He first acted in Vienna, and he was a producer and director for the German film production company UFA GmbH, U. F. A. Following the Nazi takeover of power in Germany in 1933, the Jewish Basch was forced out of films and went into exile, moving to the United States where he appeared in a large number of films acting in character actor, character roles. He was married to the actress and singer Grete Freund and was the father of Peter Basch. Richard Tauber was a second cousin of his . According to U.S. immigration entry records, he gained his American citizenship through his father. Basch died May 18, 1944, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Hollywood, California, after several major operations. Ivan Koval-Samborsky
Ivan Koval-Samborsky ( Ukrainian: Іван Коваль-Самборський; 16 September 1893 – 10 January 1962) was a Ukrainian stage and film actor. After establishing himself in the Soviet film industry in the 1920s, he briefly went to work in Germany during the late 1920s before returning to Russia following the arrival of sound. In 1938 he was arrested by the Soviet authorities leading to his most recent film, the anti-Nazi '' The Swamp Soldiers'', having to be reshot to minimize his role.Gershenson p.20 He didn't appear in another film until 1957. Hans Philipp August Albers (22 September 1891 – 24 July 1960) was a German actor and singer. He was the biggest male movie star in Germany between 1930 and 1960 and one of the most popular German actors of the twentieth century. Early life Hans Albers was born in Hamburg, the son of a butcher, and grew up in the district of St. Georg. He was seriously interested in acting by his late teens and took acting classes without the knowledge of his parents. Max Walter Gülstorff (23 March 1882 – 6 February 1947) was a German actor and stage director. Biography Gülstorff was born in Tilsit, East Prussia. He first appeared in 1900 at the Rudolstadt municipal Theater and moved to Cottbus in 1908. In 1911 Gülstorff went to the ''Schillertheater'' Berlin and became a member of the ensemble of Max Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater in 1915.
