Masaru Kitao
is a Japanese animator known for his work with Madhouse. Primarily a key animator and animation director for anime television series, Kitao has also on occasion done character designs. Recently, he has won much praise for his adapted character designs for the popular ''Death Note'' TV series. Consequently, ''Death Note'' has become his best known work. Along with ''Death Note'' director Tetsurō Araki, he was a Guest of Honor at Anime Expo 2007. When asked by fans at Anime Expo 2007, he revealed that L from ''Death Note'' is his favorite character, both to empathize with and to draw. He also stated that he would like to work on an L-themed spin-off anime, and that fans in America and Japan should request one if they too are interested. An animator is an artist who creates multiple images, known as frames, which give an illusion of movement called animation when displayed in rapid sequence. Animators can work in a variety of fields including film, television, and video games. Animation is closely related to filmmaking and like filmmaking is extremely labor-intensive, which means that most significant works require the collaboration of several animators. Gunbuster
''Gunbuster'', known in Japan as , is a Japanese OVA anime series produced by Bandai, Victor, and Gainax and released from 1988 to 1989. It was the directorial debut of Hideaki Anno, best known as the creator and director of ''Neon Genesis Evangelion''. The title is a combination of the titles of classic tennis manga and anime ''Aim for the Ace!'' and hit action drama film ''Top Gun'', whose plot inspired ''Gunbuster''s. Metropolis (anime)
is a 2001 Japanese animated futuristic dieselpunk drama film based upon Osamu Tezuka's 1949 manga of the same name. ''X'', also known as ''X/1999'' and ''X: The Movie'', is a 1996 Japanese anime film directed by Rintaro and animated by Madhouse. Rintaro wrote it alongside Clamp head writer Nanase Ohkawa. It is based on Clamp's manga of the same name. It premiered August 3, 1996, in Japan and had a limited screening in North America during 2000. The supernatural thriller focuses on the roles Kamui Shiro, Kotori Monou, and Fuma Monou play in the Apocalypse. After his mother's death, the young Kamui returns to Tokyo to participate in a Holy War between two groups that will either protect mankind or protect nature at the cost of mankind. ''Yawara!'' (also stylized as ''YAWARA!'') is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa. It was serialized in ''Big Comic Spirits'' from 1986 to 1993, with the chapters collected into 29 ''tankōbon'' volumes by publisher Shogakukan. A live-action film adaptation directed by Kazuo Yoshida and starring Yui Asaka was released by Toho in 1989. That same year, Kitty Films and Madhouse began an anime adaptation titled ''Yawara!
