Maryvale, South Australia
Maryvale is a rural locality in the Eyre and Western regions of South Australia. It lies within the District Council of Streaky Bay. The locality was created in April 2001, and was named after the Maryvale Homestead. Streaky Bay, South Australia
Streaky Bay (formerly Flinders) is a coastal town on the western side of the Eyre Peninsula, in South Australia just off the Flinders Highway, north-west of Port Lincoln and by road from Adelaide. At the , Streaky Bay recorded a population of 1, 378. The town of Streaky Bay is the major population centre of the District Council of Streaky Bay, and the centre of an agricultural district farming cereal crops and sheep, as well as having established fishing and tourism industries. History For many thousands of years, the area around Streaky Bay has been inhabited by the Wirangu people. In 1627, Dutch explorer Pieter Nuyts, in the '' Gulden Zeepaard'' (Golden Seahorse), became the first European to sight the area. A monument has been erected on the median strip in Bay Road. Flinders is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It is named after explorer Matthew Flinders, who was responsible for charting most of the state's coastline. It is a 58,901 km² coastal rural electorate encompassing the Eyre Peninsula and the coast along the Nullarbor Plain, based in and around the city of Port Lincoln and contains the District Councils of Ceduna, Cleve, Elliston, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Streaky Bay and Wudinna; as well as the localities of Fowlers Bay, Nullarbor and Yalata in the Pastoral Unincorporated Area. Mortana, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Mortana is a rural locality in South Australia, located on the Eyre Peninsula. It is traversed by the Flinders Highway. The boundaries for the locality were established in April 2001 in respect of the long established local name. Mortana Post Office opened on 2 February 1900 and closed on 31 March 1971. A cricket club once existed there, having been founded in 1912; it also formerly had a school. A railway line to the area was mooted in the 1920s, but did not occur. The Murphy's Haystacks geological formation is located at Mortana, and forms a local tourist attraction. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Mortana had a population of 16 people. The District Council of Streaky Bay is a local government area in South Australia located on the Eyre Peninsula. Streaky Bay is the main population centre of about 1,200 people serving an agricultural district based on farming wheat and other cereal crops, sheep, supplemented by fishing and tourism industries. Maryvale Station (South Australia)
Maryvale Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is situated about south of Alice Springs and east of Yulara. The ephemeral Finke and the Hugh River both flow through the property but it is still dependent on bores and dams for watering stock. The Indigenous Australian community of Titjikala is situated within the boundaries of the station. The property shares a boundary with Horseshoe Bend Station to the south, Allambi to the east, Deep Well and Orange Creek to the north and with Henbury and Idracowra Stations to the west. The unusual rock formation, Chambers Pillar is situated within the station boundaries. The property has an average stocking rate of approximately 6,500 head of cattle. William Austin Horn
William Austin Horn (1841–1922) was an Australian mining magnate, pastoralist, politician, author, sculptor and philanthropist. Somewhat eccentric, in 1892 he was the donor of a copy of Antonio Canova's Venus, Adelaide's then controversial first public statue, which is still on display on North Terrace, Adelaide. Horn also built Wairoa, Aldgate, known for its magnificent gardens and captured in a watercolour by William Tibbits. Family Horn was born 26 February 1841 at Menaroo (an old name for the Monaro district), New South Wales, to Edward Kirk Horn, a storekeeper, and his wife Emily, née Austin. The family moved to South Australia in 1852, where Horn was educated at the Collegiate School of St Peter. On 24 September 1879 in St Andrews Church, Walkerville, he married Penelope Elizabeth Belt; they had two daughters and six sons.
