Marymount College, Adelaide
Sacred Heart College (SHC), Marymount Campus is a Catholic school in the Marist tradition. Currently Marymount Campus is a girls' middle school for Yrs 6–9. From 2019, SHC will consist of Champagnat Campus, co-educational for Yrs 7–9 at Mitchell Park and a Senior School Campus, co-educational for Yrs 10–12 at Somerton Park. Founded by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, Marymount belongs to a group of three educational facilities, known as the Tri-School partnership. This group also consists of Sacred Heart College Senior and Sacred Heart College Middle School. Most of the students that pass through either of the middle schools continue on to the senior school, located nearby Marymount, in Somerton Park. The school has four houses: Adamson, McEwen, McLaughlin and Polding. The school became defunct in 2018 and it merged with Sacred Heart College. The Marymount Colleges are a group of colleges founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), an institute with French origins which was founded on February 24, 1849. When the institution expanded to the United States, its members founded a series of parochial schools, called the RSHM Network of Schools, with the name "Marymount". United States New York Of the American colleges founded by RSHM, Marymount College, Tarrytown, was founded first, on December 8, 1907, founded by Johanna Butler. Marymount School, a women's Catholic high school in Manhattan, was founded in 1926. In 1936, an extension of Marymount College, Tarrytown, was formed in Manhattan. It later became the co-educational college now known as Marymount Manhattan College. The original Marymount College, Tarrytown, was consolidated with Fordham University. Marymount Manhattan College is a private college on the Upper East Side of New York City. As of 2020, enrollment consists of 1,571 undergraduates with women making up 80.1% and men 19.9% of student enrollment. The college was founded in 1936. Marymount College, Tarrytown (also known as Marymount College of Fordham University) was a women's college in the United States which eventually became part of Fordham University. The Marymount campus was located in Tarrytown, New York. The last class graduated in 2007, and the campus was sold in 2008. History Johanna Butler was born on July 22, 1860, in County Kilkenny, Ireland, the daughter of prosperous farmers John and Ellen Forrestal Butler. At the age of sixteen, she joined the French congregation of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM) at Béziers, taking the name "Marie Joseph". In 1903, Butler was appointed superior of the congregation's convent and school on Long Island. In 1907, her cousin James Butler donated land near Tarrytown, New York for the founding of the college. Originally founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RHSM), the university awarded associate, bachelor's, and graduate degrees. The institution was accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission. The university closed in August 2022. Marymount College was a four-year liberal arts college located in Salina, Kansas that opened in 1922 as a women's college. It was operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia, Kansas. The original college was a three-story building that overlooked the Smoky Hill River. The single building on its campus dominated the eastern edge of the city. The school was accredited by the Higher Learning Commission in 1932. In the 1950s and 1960s, two dormitories and a Fine Arts building were erected. The three dormitories on campus housed 350 resident students. Marymount became coeducational in 1968, which met with mixed reactions from students and faculty. A multi-purpose physical education building was erected in 1971. Basketball coach Ken Cochran was hired for the 1970-71 year and two years after Marymount had begun to admit male full-time students. Marymount Academy (Sudbury)
Marymount Academy is a middle and high school in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, which offers Catholic education for girls in Grades 7 through 12. The school serves between 400 and 600 students. The school originally opened in 1956 as Marymount College, a girls' high school founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, equivalent to the boys-only St. Charles College. Following St. Charles' conversion to a co-educational school in 1993, enrolment at Marymount began to decline, a process that accelerated following the opening of St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School in 1996. The school thus added Grade 7 and 8 education, and developed a special focus on enriched academic education for young women, changing its name to the current Marymount Academy.
