Maryland Route 765
Maryland Route 765 (MD 765) is a collection of state highways in the U.S. state of Maryland. These 26 highways are service roads constructed or old alignments maintained to provide access to private property or county highways whose access was compromised by the realignment of MD 2 and MD 4 in Calvert County. There are six signed mainline segments of MD 765 comprising the old alignment of the concurrency of MD 2 and MD 4 (hereafter referenced as MD 2-4) through Solomons, Lusby, St. Leonard, and Port Republic, and the county seat of Prince Frederick in southern Calvert County. There are also 20 unsigned sections of MD 765 south of Prince Frederick and along MD 2 between its junction with MD 4 in Sunderland and Owings in northern Calvert County. Calvert County is located in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2020 census, the population was 92,783. Its county seat is Prince Frederick. Maryland Route 231 (MD 231) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. The state highway runs from Olivers Shop Road near Hughesville east to MD 765 in Prince Frederick. MD 231 crosses the Patuxent River on the Benedict Bridge, which connects Benedict in eastern Charles County with Hallowing Point in central Calvert County. The highway directly connects MD 5 in Hughesville with MD 2/ MD 4 in Prince Frederick. MD 231 was constructed from Hughesville to Benedict and from Hollowing Point to Prince Frederick in the early 1920s. Scientists Cliffs, Maryland
Scientists' Cliffs is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Calvert County, Maryland, Calvert County, Maryland, United States. Other names used for the community include Annes Aggravation, Flippos Folly, Pathologists Quagmire. The private community was first established in 1935 as a summer colony for scientists by Flippo and Annie Gravatt. The founders of Scientists' Cliffs chose this land because the population of American Chestnut trees showed a particular resistance to the blight. Original cabins in the area were built from felled American Chestnut trees that died from the Chestnut blight, blight. Although established as a seasonal community, the first year-round resident moved to the community in 1943. Maryland Route 509 (MD 509) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known for most of its length as Governor Run Road, the state highway runs from MD 2/ MD 4 east to a dead end at the Chesapeake Bay within Port Republic. Calvert Cliffs State Park
Calvert Cliffs State Park is a public recreation area in Lusby, Calvert County, Maryland, that protects a portion of cliffs that extend for 24 miles along the eastern flank of the Calvert Peninsula on the west side of Chesapeake Bay from Chesapeake Beach southward to Drum Point. The state park is known for the abundance of mainly Middle Miocene sub-epoch fossils that can be found on the shoreline. Natural history Geology The park contains the type locality site of the Early to Middle Miocene Calvert Formation. These rocks are the sediment from a coastal ocean that covered the area during that time. The age of the formation is (19-)18–15(-14) million years ago ( Ma), i.e. it extends essentially over the Hemingfordian stage. This formation occurs in Maryland and neighboring Virginia. Middleham Chapel
Middleham Chapel is a historic Episcopal church located in Lusby, Calvert County, Maryland. It is a one-story, cruciform, Flemish bond brick structure with exposed fieldstone foundations. It was built in 1748, to replace an earlier frame or log structure believed to have been erected as early as 1684, as a Chapel of Ease of Christ Church Parish. The date of construction is worked into the brick on the front of the church. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Middleham Chapel is still in use today.
