Whitehall, Dublin
Whitehall () is a Northside suburb of Dublin City, Ireland. Whitehall is a residential area on the northern outskirts of Dublin's inner city, located near the M1 motorway leading to Dublin Airport, Swords and Belfast. It's situated between the suburbs of Santry, Drumcondra and Glasnevin. North of Whitehall, the M1 motorway begins at its junction with the M50, past the Dublin Port Tunnel's northern entrance. The area is adjacent to the major public Beaumont Hospital and to Dublin City University on Collins Avenue. Etymology Whitehall takes its name from a house named White Hall, formerly located to the south of the village on Drumcondra Road Upper. Drumcondra () is a residential area and inner suburb on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. It is administered by Dublin City Council. The River Tolka and the Royal Canal flow through the area. History The village of Drumcondra was the central area of the civil parish of Clonturk, and the two names were used equally for the religious and civil parishes, but the modern suburban district of Drumcondra also encompasses the old Parish of St. Mary. Clonturk had been an alternative name for Drumcondra and the wider area for some time. The Cat and Cage Pub, on the corner of Drumcondra Road and Church Avenue, was the site of an old postal stop and the point at which rebels, during the 1798 rebellion, seized a postal cart in order to signal to others in North County Dublin to revolt. The Le Chéile Schools Trust is a charitable trust which manages around 60 schools in Ireland on behalf of fifteen Roman Catholic religious congregations. History The majority of secondary schools and some junior schools in Ireland were established and managed by various Roman Catholic religious congregations. In the late 1900s, these religious orders had declined in number and it was decided to pool their resources in a number of collaborative arrangements known as trusts. The Le Chéile Schools Trust was established in 2004 and fully enacted over the following years. The trust was formally established as a company limited by guarantee in 2008. The trust was originally set up by twelve Roman Catholic religious congregations.
