Mary Strong
Mary Strong (born 1973) is an American broadcast journalist, professional beach volleyball player and master yoga instructor. Strong graduated from Loyola Marymount University, where she was a full scholarship athlete on the NCAA Women’s Division I volleyball team. She later spent time on the AVP pro beach volleyball circuit, ranking top 20, and was inducted in the Notre Dame High School Hall of Fame in 2016 for her outstanding achievements in volleyball. Strong began her career as a news journalist for NBC and CNN, eventually earning an Edward R. Murrow Award for breaking news coverage. She parlayed her love for sports and broadcasting into a career on the sidelines for Fox Sports Network, covering AVP pro beach volleyball, Pacific-10 Conference football, and poker. She was nominated for an Emmy as the host of Fox Sports Net show DIG and for the DirecTV Sports Mix Channels. Fox Sports Networks (FSN), formerly known as Fox Sports Net, was the collective name for a group of regional sports channels in the United States. Formed in 1996 by News Corporation, the networks were acquired by The Walt Disney Company on March 20, 2019, following its acquisition of 21st Century Fox. A condition of that acquisition imposed by the U.S. Department of Justice required Disney to sell the regional networks by June 18, 2019, 90 days after the completion of its acquisition. Disney subsequently agreed to sell the networks (excluding the YES Network, being reacquired by Yankee Global Enterprises) to Sinclair; the transaction was completed on August 22, 2019. The International Pool Tour was a professional sports tour created in 2005 by Kevin Trudeau and hosted by Rebecca Grant. It aimed to elevate pool to the level of other modern sports. Closely modeled on the PGA Tour, the IPT offered the largest prize funds in pool history in its first year. The tour attracted the top pool players in the world. It differed from the many nine-ball tournaments, as all IPT events were eight-ball matches. The company was based in Hinsdale, Illinois. Many pool enthusiasts were initially skeptical, but the first event was successful, and at the time was the biggest tournament in billiards history. The Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament was a series of no limit Texas hold 'em poker tournaments. The first season is available on NTSC DVD. It airs on Fox Sports Net in the United States, Rogers Sportsnet in Canada and Ftn in the United Kingdom.
