Mary Prior
Alice Mary Prior (born 22 April 1942) served as Lord Lieutenant of Bristol from 2007 to 2017. She is currently the Pro-chancellor of University of Bristol and a trustee of the environmental fund Viridor Credits. Until her retirement in 1997 she was Sales and Marketing Director of Alexandra, a major workwear and uniform company. She was given an honorary degree by the University of the West of England "in the recognition of her outstanding contribution to local public service, and her advisory support to the Bristol Business School and links with significant stakeholders of the University of the West of England" and is patron or president of a number of charities based in the Bristol area. Since being appointed Lord-Lieutenant, Prior has also been made chair of the Commission for Bristol and Avon Magistrates. Since 2008, Prior has been a member of The Society of Merchant Venturers. Hambrook
Hambrook is a village in South Gloucestershire, England, situated on the north-eastern outskirts of the city of Bristol. It lies between the larger communities of Winterbourne and Frenchay and is part of the Civil Parish of Winterbourne. A small settlement was recorded at Hambrook in the Domesday Book. Today, Hambrook is a commuter village, with the M4 and the Avon Ring Road bisecting it. Hambrook lies at the south-western foot of Winterbourne Hill. The River Frome and its walkway pass along the village's eastern edge and the Bradley Brook converges with the former in Hambrook. The village is flanked by woodland and fields. Hambrook has a common (or village green) which locals refer to as either 'Hambrook' or 'Whiteshill Common' because of its proximity to the hamlet of Whiteshill. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. The Society of Merchant Venturers is a charitable organisation in the English city of Bristol. The society can be traced back to a 13th-century guild which funded the voyage of John Cabot to Canada. In 1552, it gained a monopoly on sea trading from Bristol from its first royal charter. For centuries it had almost been synonymous with the government of Bristol, especially Bristol Harbour. In recent times, the society's activities have centred on charitable agendas. Local Justice Area
Local justice areas are units in England and Wales established by the Courts Act 2003, replacing and directly based on the previous petty sessional divisions. They have been in existence since 2005. Local justice areas are used to determine which magistrates' courts may hear a particular case.
