Mary Morgan (infanticide)
Mary Morgan (1788 – 15 April 1805) was a young servant in Presteigne, Radnorshire, Wales, who was convicted and hanged for killing her newborn child. While Morgan was from Glasbury, her story has been associated with Presteigne since her execution in 1805. She was employed as an undercook at Maesllwch Castle, the seat of Walter Wilkins Esq, the Member of Parliament for the county of Radnorshire. The murder Morgan was working in the kitchens in the early hours of a Sunday in September 1804 when she became unwell. She later went to her room in the servant's quarters of the castle. Early that evening the cook went to her room and accused Morgan of having given birth to a baby, which at first she strongly denied. Mary Jane (Sexton) Morgan (1823–1885), initially a schoolteacher, became a fine art collector after her marriage to Charles Morgan. She was the second wife to the man who earned a fortune in the iron, railroad, and steamship industries. She also grew and collected orchids. Early life Mary Jane Sexton, the daughter of Sarah Mills (Ross) Sexton and Francis Sexton, was born in 1823 in New York City. Her father, an East Indian trader, was from Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and began his career as an importer in Boston. Her maternal grandfather, William Ross, was the largest carriage maker in the state for a time. Upon his death, he left a large inheritance to his grandchildren. Michele LeAnn Morgan (July 20, 1957 – August 11, 1961) was an American child abuse victim who was murdered by her stepmother at the age of four. Her story was documented on an episode of ''Cold Case Files''. Abuse Michele suffered multiple injuries to the chest and back, a broken nose, burns on her skin, and a broken arm before the age of four at the hands of her stepmother, Mary Rae. These led to over 20 visits to a hospital, including one in which she was hospitalized for a month. Murder On August 9, 1961, Mary held Michele under water and stomped her violently, believing that the child had lied about something. These actions were seen by Michele's older brother, George. At dinner, Michele threw up blood clots. The next day she died of her internal injuries. Mary Sherman Morgan (November 4, 1921 – August 4, 2004) was a U.S. rocket fuel scientist credited with the invention of the liquid fuel Hydyne in 1957, which powered the Jupiter-C rocket that boosted the United States' first satellite, Explorer 1. Early life and education The second youngest of six siblings, Mary Sherman was born to Michael and Dorothy Sherman on their farm in Ray, North Dakota. She grew up in a family of bullying siblings and indifferent parents who kept her out of school to work on the farm. Mary DeNeale Morgan (May 24, 1868 – October 10, 1948) also known as M. DeNeale Morgan, was an American plein air painter, especially in watercolor, and printmaker. She was the director the Carmel Summer School of Art sponsored by the Carmel Arts and Crafts Club and a founding member of the Carmel Art Association (CAA) in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Early life A native of San Francisco, Morgan was the second of seven children; her mother's parents, Thomas Wolfe Morgan (1839-1903) and Cristina Agnes Ross (1847-1922), had emigrated to California from Scotland in the 1850s. Mary Kimball Morgan (8 December 1861 – 13 October 1948) was an American educator and the founder of The Principia, a K–12 school in St. Louis, Missouri, and Principia College, a four year college in Elsah, Illinois. Biography Nellie May Kimball, who went by Mary, was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on December 8, 1861. Her family moved to St. Louis when she was six years old, where she went to school and was active in the Methodist Church. She planned on attending college but was prevented by health issues. She married William Edgar Morgan in December of 1885, but her health continued to decline rapidly. She joined the Christian Science Church in St. Louis and in 1896 became a practitioner. She began homeschooling her two sons, and soon was asked by other parents at her church to teach their children as well. Mary Elizabeth Morgan-Grenville, 11th Lady Kinloss (''née'' Lady Mary Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville; 30 September 1852 – 17 October 1944) was a British peeress. Biography The eldest of the three daughters of Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville, 3rd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, and Caroline, Duchess of Buckingham and Chandos (''née'' Harvey), she married Major Luis Courthorpe Morgan on 4 November 1884. Upon the death of her father on 26 March 1889, she succeeded to the Lordship of Kinloss, one of her father's subsidiary titles.
