Mary Geaney
Mary Geaney is an Irish sportswoman. She played senior ladies' Gaelic football for Kerry, senior camogie for Cork and is also a former Ireland women's field hockey international. In 1976 she captained Kerry when they won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship and in 1980 she captained Cork when they won the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. She was the first player to captain a team to both championships. As a field hockey international, she was a member of the Ireland team that won the 1983 Women's Intercontinental Cup. In 2010 she was inducted into the Irish Hockey Association Hall of Fame. Castleisland
Castleisland () is a town and commercial centre in County Kerry in south west Ireland. The town is known for the width of its main street. As of the 2016 Census, Castleisland had a population of 2,486. Castleisland was described by one of its citizens, journalist Con Houlihan, as "not so much a town as a street between two fields". Hockey Ireland, previously known as the Irish Hockey Association, is the governing body for field hockey in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. 1978 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship
The 1978 All Ireland Camogie Championship was won by Cork, who beat Dublin by 17 points in the final. It was the last final to be played using the second crossbar. Championship Margaret O'Toole scored the goal to bring Clare into the All-Ireland semi-final for the second successive year and third time in all. Semi-final Dublin’s superior ground play and first half goals from Anne Byrne and Mary Mernagh proved decisive in a semi-final victory over Wexford played in torrential rain. Final Cork scored three goals (from Sheila Murray, Nancy O'Driscoll and Pat Moloney) and two points without reply in the opening twenty minutes, ending the game as a contest. Offaly County Ladies' Football Team
The Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Uíbh Fhailí) or Offaly GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Offaly. Separate county boards are also responsible for the Offaly county teams. The 1974 All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship was the inaugural championship. On 18 July 1974 the Ladies Gaelic Football Association was founded at a meeting held at the Hayes' Hotel in Thurles, County Tipperary. At the meeting it was agreed to establish a senior Ladies' Gaelic football inter-county championship. Eight GAA counties, including Cork, Kerry, Roscommon, Laois, Offaly, Galway, Waterford and Tipperary, subsequently decided to enter the inaugural championship. The four Munster counties also agreed to play in an inaugural Munster Senior Ladies' Football Championship. Tipperary won both the Munster and All-Ireland championships, defeating Kerry and Offaly in the respective finals. Cork County Ladies' Football Team
The Cork county ladies' football team represents Cork GAA in ladies' Gaelic football. The team competes in inter-county competitions such as the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship, the Munster Senior Ladies' Football Championship and the Ladies' National Football League. After winning their first All-Ireland and League titles in 2005, Cork went on to dominate both competitions during the late 2000s and the 2010s. Blackrock, Cork
Blackrock is a suburb, with a village core, in the southeast of Cork City, Ireland. Originally a small fishing village about five kilometres from Cork City, the growth of the city over time has meant that the village has become incorporated into the city. It is home to Blackrock GAA club, Blackrock Castle, a weekly farmers market, and as of 2015 has seen some investment in regeneration projects for the traditional village centre.
