Mary Galloway
Mary Galloway is a Canadian film director, writer and actor from the Cowichan Nation. She is best known for her web series ''Querencia (web series), Querencia''. Early life Born in 1991, Mary Galloway grew up in Qualicum Beach and is of mixed-Cowichan and settler descent. She is the granddaughter of the late Cowichan Tribes Chief Dennis Alphonse. She attended a 2-year intensive acting program at New Image College of Fine Arts in Vancouver before the start of her film career. Career Galloway is a graduate of the Director's Lab at the Canadian Film Centre. Her debut short film, ''Unintentional Mother'', premiered at the Whistler Film Festival. She was recognized as a 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, TIFF Rising Star. In 2021, her web series, ''Querencia (web series), Querencia'', premiered on Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, APTN Lumi in Canada and on Revry TV globally. Comox, British Columbia
Comox () is a town on the southern coast of the Comox Peninsula in the Strait of Georgia on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Thousands of years ago, the warm dry summers, mild winters, fertile soil, and abundant sea life attracted First Nations, who called the area ''kw'umuxws'' ( Kwak'wala, the adopted language of the K'omoks, for ''plentiful''). When the area was opened for settlement in the mid-19th century, it quickly attracted farmers, a lumber industry and a fishing industry. For over fifty years, the village remained isolated from the outside world other than by ship until roads and a railway were built into the area during the First World War.
