Mary Beth Leatherdale
Mary Beth Leatherdale is a Canadian author and storyteller. Early life and education Leatherdale grew up in Ridgetown. Leatherdale received a bachelor's degree in visual arts from the University of Western Ontario, followed by a Master of Education from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Career In 2018, Leatherdale was the International Board on Books for Young People Canada president, during which time she co-chaired a project to increase the number of children's books by Indigenous authors held in Canadian libraries. Forest Of Reading
The Forest of Reading is Canada's largest recreational reading program, featuring ten award programs and run by the Ontario Library Association (OLA). Programs are primarily geared towards French and English readers in kindergarten to grade twelve, but do also include programs targeting adult readers and ESL learners. The Forest awards are selected by readers themselves, who choose the winning titles for each award by voting for their favourite books. Golden Kite Award
The Golden Kite Awards are given annually by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, an international children's writing organization, to recognize excellence in children’s literature. The award is a golden medallion showing a child flying a kite. Instituted in 1973, the Golden Kite Awards are the only children’s literary award judged by a jury of peers. Eligible books must be written or illustrated by SCBWI members, and submitted either by publishers or individuals.
