The ''Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game'' (abbreviated ''MURPG'') is a role-playing game (RPG) set in the Marvel Universe. The game included versions of several popular Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. It also allowed for designing one's own heroes and villains. History The SAGA-based ''Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game'' (1998) was published into 2000, after which the long history between TSR and Marvel Comics ended; Marvel then published its own ''Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game'' (2003). The game featured tactical resource management, something originally made popular in the indie role-playing game movement. ''InQuest Gamer'' was a monthly magazine for game reviews and news that was published from 1995 to 2007. Originally, the magazine was named ''InQuest'' and focused solely on collectible card games (CCGs); ''InQuest'', along with its competitor ''Scrye'', were the two major CCG magazines. TSR (company)
TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner. ''Dungeons & Dragons'' is generally considered the first tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), and established the genre. When Kaye died suddenly in 1975, the Tactical Studies Rules partnership restructured into TSR Hobbies, Inc. and accepted investment from Blume's father Melvin. The ''Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game'' is a role-playing game published by TSR, Inc. that uses the ''SAGA System'' and features characters published by Marvel Comics. The SAGA System is a role-playing game system that uses "fate cards" to determine the effects of actions. The cards have numbers, suits, positive and negative states, and role-playing cues that guide the gamemaster in telling the story and administering the game. The system has been used in TSR, Inc.'s '' Dragonlance: Fifth Age'' game and the ''Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game'', later published by TSR. Dan Gelber (game Designer)
Daniel Seth Gelber is a game designer who has worked primarily on wargames and role-playing games. Career Dan Gelber had created an RPG design about a computer-controlled world of dystopic adventure called "Alpha Complex" that he ran for his local group, and Gelber's friend Greg Costikyan and Eric Goldberg approached Gelber about turning the setting into a professional product. Gelber gave Goldberg and Costikyan his notes for the game and they turned those ideas into a complete manuscript. Gelber, Costikyan, and Goldberg licensed ''Paranoia'' to West End Games, and Ken Rolston helped rewrite the rules before it was published in 1984.
