Martine Wiltshire
Martine Wiltshire, MBE (née Wright; born 30 September 1972) is a British sitting volleyball player. Wright, who was born in London, lost both of her legs in the Aldgate underground explosion in the 7/7 London bombings in 2005. She lost 80% of the blood in her body and was in a coma for ten days and had to undergo ten months of surgery following the injury. As part of her rehabilitation she played wheelchair tennis before focusing on sitting volleyball. Wright was an initial member of the Great Britain women's squad which began playing together in late 2009, making her debut at the 2010 Kent International tournament against Paralympic Champions, China. In July 2012 she was picked to represent Great Britain's women's sitting volleyball team at the sitting volleyball event in the 2012 Summer Paralympics. De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is a public university in the city of Leicester, England. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court.
