Downhill (ski Competition)
Downhill is a form of alpine skiing competition. Whereas the other alpine skiing events (Slalom skiing, slalom, Giant slalom skiing, giant slalom, Super Giant Slalom skiing, super giant slalom, and alpine skiing combined, combined) emphasize turning and technique, downhill emphasizes "the six components of technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition and judgement", according to the International Ski Federation, FIS "International Ski Competition Rules (ICR)".. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2015 – Men's Super Combined
The Men's super combined competition at the 2015 World Championships was held on Sunday, February 8. Marcel Hirscher won the gold medal, despite originally finishing in 31st position after the downhill leg. Ondřej Bank however, fell on the final jump and, although the original results had Bank in 25th place, the jury disqualified him after the run ended and as a result, Hirscher was able to start first in the slalom leg instead of starting after the top 30. With a clean track he was able to rise all the way from 30th to 1st. Kjetil Jansrud took silver for Norway after leading the downhill leg. Bronze medalist Ted Ligety commenting on the race conditions and result, said, "It was dumb luck. If I was a half-second faster in the downhill, I wouldn’t have been able to get a medal at all. Bormio
Bormio ( lmo, Bormi, rm, italic=yes, , german: Worms im Veltlintal) is a town and ''comune'' with a population of about 4,100 located in the Province of Sondrio, Lombardy region of the Alps in northern Italy. Super-G
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom. It debuted as an official World Cup event during the 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the World Championships in 1987 and the Winter Olympics in 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through. The course is set so that skiers must turn more than in downhill, though the speeds are still much higher than in giant slalom (hence the name). Each athlete only has one run to clock the best time. In the Olympics, super-G courses are usually set on the same slopes as the downhill, but with a lower starting point. Kvitfjell ( no, White mountain) is a ski resort in Norway, located in the municipality of Ringebu. Developed for the Alpine skiing at the 1994 Winter Olympics, 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, it is one of the most modern resorts in the world, with snowmaking on 80% of the alpine skiing, alpine pistes. The Lauberhorn ski races (Lauberhorn World Cup alpine ski races (german: Lauberhornrennen) (downhill, slalom, and combined) are among the highest-attended winter sports events in the world, attracting around 30,000 spectators each year. An established attraction is the airshow by the Patrouille Suisse, the aerobatic demonstration team of the Swiss Air Force. 2019–20 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup
The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup, the premier circuit for alpine skiing competition, began in January 1967, and the season marked the 54th consecutive year for the FIS World Cup. As it had every year since 2006 (when the Sölden races were cancelled by a snowstorm), the season began in Sölden, Austria in October. The season was supposed to end with the World Cup finals in March, which were to be held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy for the first time since they began in 1993, but the finals were cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy. As part of an effort to control the expansion of the World Cup circuit while fighting increased specialization, the city events were dropped this season, to be replaced by more parallel events at regular venues, while the Alpine combined was expanded. 2018–19 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup
The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup was the premier circuit for alpine skiing competition. The inaugural season launched in January 1967, and the season marks the 53rd consecutive year for the FIS World Cup. This season began in October 2018 in Sölden, Austria, and concluded in mid-March 2019 at the finals in Soldeu, Andorra. The biennial World Championships interrupted the tour in early February in Åre, Sweden. During the season, the most successful female skier of all time, four-time overall World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn of the United States, retired after the World Championships, at which she won a bronze medal in downhill. Also, two-time overall champion Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway retired at the same meet, at which he won a silver medal in downhill.
