Martin Stratmann
Martin Stratmann (born 20 April 1954 in Essen, West Germany) is a German electrochemist and materials scientist. He is one of the directors at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (Max-Planck-Institute for Iron Research) in Düsseldorf since 2000, and heads its department of Interface Chemistry and Surface Engineering. Stratmann has been president of the Max Planck Society since June 2014, after having been its vice president from 2008 to 2014. Professional career After finishing his Abitur (A-levels) in 1973 at the grammar school in Traben-Trarbach (Rhineland-Palatinate, south-west Germany), and after his military service, Stratmann studied chemistry at the Ruhr University Bochum. Stratmann received his diploma about NMR-analysis of the diffusion of anions and cations in SrCl2 in 1979. Ernst Reuter
Ernst Rudolf Johannes Reuter (29 July 1889 – 29 September 1953) was the mayor of West Berlin from 1948 to 1953, during the time of the Cold War. Biography Early years Reuter was born in Apenrade (Aabenraa), Province of Schleswig-Holstein (now in Denmark). He spent his childhood days in Leer where a public square is named after him. Reuter attended the universities of Münster and Marburg where he completed his studies in 1912 and passed the examinations as a teacher. Moreover, he was member in a fraternity called "SBV Frankonia Marburg". The same year he became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Reuter opposed Kaiser Wilhelm's regime at the start of the First World War. After being drafted, Reuter was sent to the Eastern front where he was wounded and captured by the Russians. Peter Gruss
Peter Gruss (born 28 June 1949) is a German developmental biologist, president of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, and the former president of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (having been elected for the term from 2002 to 2008 and reelected for 2008–2014). Gruss's research has generally covered the topic of control mechanisms in the development of mammals, especially in the development of the nervous system. Otto Hahn Medal
The Otto Hahn Medal (german: Otto-Hahn-Medaille) is awarded by the Max Planck Society to young scientists and researchers in both the natural and social sciences. The award takes its name from the German chemist and Nobel Prize laureate Otto Hahn, who served as the first president of the Max Planck Society from 1948 to 1960. The medal is awarded annually to a maximum of thirty junior scientists in recognition of outstanding scientific achievement. Up to ten awardees are selected in each of three thematized sections: 1) Biological-Medical, 2) Chemical-Physical-Engineering, and 3) Social Science-Humanities.
