Martin Kenny
Martin Kenny (born 1 October 1971) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Sligo–Leitrim constituency since the 2016 general election. Career Kenny became a member of Leitrim County Council in 2001, when he was co-opted to replace Liam McGirl, the son of former Sinn Féin TD John Joe McGirl. Harassment and attacks In May 2016, Kenny alleged a number of serious instances of misconduct within the Garda SÃochána. The main allegations included that gardaà were engaging informants who were active criminals, outside the Garda Covert Human Intelligence Sources programme. He also mentioned a number of instances including "robberies allegedly carried out by informants under the direction of gardaÃ", cases of entrapment made at the behest of Garda handlers, and an instance where "senior gardaà did not inform other members of the force of plans by a criminal gang to carry out attacks at the homes of gardaÃ". A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). It is the equivalent of terms such as ''Member of Parliament'' (MP) or '' Member of Congress'' used in other countries. The official translation of the term is "Deputy to the Dáil", although a more literal translation is "Assembly Delegate". Overview For electoral purposes, the Republic of Ireland is divided into areas known as constituencies, each of which elects three, four, or five TDs. Alan Shatter
Alan Joseph Shatter (born 14 February 1951) is an Irish lawyer, author and former Fine Gael politician who served as Minister for Justice and Equality and Minister for Defence from 2011 to 2014. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South constituency from 1981 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2016. He ended his membership of Fine Gael in early 2018. His most recent books are ''Life is a Funny Business'' (2017) and ''Frenzy and Betrayal: The Anatomy of a Political Assassination'' (2019). Kidnapping Of Kevin Lunney
On 17 September 2019 Kevin Lunney, chief operating officer of Quinn Industrial Holdings, was abducted from his home near Derrylin, beaten and left near Drumcoghill, County Cavan. Abduction On the 17 September 2019, he drove into the laneway leading to his home and noticed a white car ahead of him, which quickly reversed into his car. He locked the doors but two men smashed the windows and dragged him out. A third man threatened him with a Stanley knife, telling him to get into the boot of a black Audi. The attackers then set Lunneys' car and the white car on fire. Lunney managed to unlock the boot and tried to escape but was beaten and thrown back into the car. Ocean FM is a local radio station that broadcasts to parts of the northwest of Ireland. The station covers the area of south County Donegal, north County Leitrim and most of County Sligo and it broadcasts into parts of south-west County Fermanagh. It started broadcasting on 1 October 2004, replacing North West Radio (NWR). County Leitrim ( ; gle, Contae Liatroma) is a county in Ireland. It is in the province of Connacht and is part of the Northern and Western Region. It is named after the village of Leitrim. Leitrim County Council is the local authority for the county, which had a population of 35,087 according to the 2022 census. 2019 Grays Incident
On 23 October 2019, the bodies of 39 Vietnamese people — 31 men and 8 women — were found in the trailer of an articulated refrigerator lorry in Grays, Essex, United Kingdom. The trailer had been shipped from the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, to Purfleet, Essex, UK, and the lorry cab and its driver are believed to have originated from Northern Ireland. Investigations are being led by Essex Police, and involve the national authorities of the UK, Belgium, Ireland and Vietnam. Nine people have so far been convicted of crimes related to the incident in the UK and a further nineteen have been jailed in Belgium.
