Martin E. Huld
Martin E. Huld is an American linguist who is Professor Emeritus at California State University, Los Angeles. He specializes in Indo-European linguistics. Biography Huld received his B.A. (1972) at California State University, Los Angeles, and his M.A. (1978) and Ph.D. (1979) at the University of California, Los Angeles. He subsequently served Lecturer at California State University, Los Angeles (1983-1998), Instructor at Mount Saint Mary's College (1991-1998), Assistant Professor in the Department of English at California State University, Los Angeles (1998-2004), Associate Professor in the Department of English at California State University, Los Angeles (2004-2007), and Professor in the Department of English at California State University, Los Angeles (2007-2015). Huld retired as Professor Emeritus in 2015. Huld specializes in Indo-European linguistics. He is the author of numerous influential works on this subject. Mythographers
Myth is a folklore genre consisting of narratives that play a fundamental role in a society, such as foundational tales or origin myths. Since "myth" is widely used to imply that a story is not objectively true, the identification of a narrative as a myth can be highly controversial. Many adherents of religions view their own religions' stories as truth and so object to their characterization as myth, the way they see the stories of other religions. As such, some scholars label all religious narratives "myths" for practical reasons, such as to avoid depreciating any one tradition because cultures interpret each other differently relative to one another. Indo-European studies is a field of linguistics and an interdisciplinary field of study dealing with Indo-European languages, both current and extinct. The goal of those engaged in these studies is to amass information about the hypothetical proto-language from which all of these languages are descended, a language dubbed Proto-Indo-European (PIE), and its speakers, the Proto-Indo-Europeans, including their society and Proto-Indo-European mythology. Jaan Puhvel
Jaan Puhvel (born 24 January 1932) is an Estonian comparative linguist and comparative mythologist who specializes in Indo-European studies. Born in Estonia, Puhvel fled his country with his family in 1944 following the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states, and eventually ended up in Canada. Gaining his Ph.D. in comparative linguistics at Harvard University, he became a professor of classical languages, Indo-European studies and Hittite at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he founded the Center for the Study of Comparative Folklore and Mythology and was Chairman of the Department of Classics. Puhvel is the founder of the ''Hittite Etymological Dictionary'', and the author and editor of several works on Proto-Indo-European mythology and Proto-Indo-European society. Linguistic Society Of America
The Linguistic Society of America (LSA) is a learned society for the field of linguistics. Founded in New York City in 1924, the LSA works to promote the scientific study of language. The society publishes three scholarly journals: ''Language'', the open access journal ''Semantics and Pragmatics'', and the open access journal Phonological Data & Analysis. Its annual meetings, held every winter, foster discussion amongst its members through the presentation of peer-reviewed research, as well as conducting official business of the society.
