Martin Canning
Martin Canning (born 3 December 1981) is a Scottish football player and coach and is assistant manager at Stoke City. Canning played as a central defender for Ross County, Peterhead, Gretna, Hibernian and Hamilton Academical. Playing career Canning became Gretna's record signing in January 2006 after joining from Ross County in a £60,000 deal. He made 46 appearances for Gretna, scoring once against Livingston, and helped them to promotion to the Scottish Premier League in the 2006–07 season. He was cup tied for their run to the 2006 Scottish Cup Final. His contract with Gretna was terminated by mutual consent on 31 January 2008 due to the ensuing financial crisis at Gretna. Canning had to waive money he was due by Gretna to ensure that he was released from his contract and he was subsequently named in a creditors list published by Gretna's administrator in April 2008. As a legal concept, administration is a procedure under the insolvency laws of a number of common law jurisdictions, similar to bankruptcy in the United States. Scottish Football League Second Division
The Scottish Football League Second Division was the third tier of the Scottish football league system between 1975 and 2013. History The Second Division was created in 1975, as part of a wider reconstruction of the Scottish Football League (SFL). Prior to 1975, the SFL had been split into two divisions (Division One and Division Two). The effect of the reconstruction was to split these two divisions into three, with the top flight named the Premier Division, second tier the First Division, and a new third tier was created known as the Second Division. A fourth tier, known as the Third Division, was created in 1994. In 1998, the Premier Division clubs broke away from the SFL to form the Scottish Premier League (SPL). The 1999–2000 Scottish Second Division was won by Clyde and ended with Alloa Athletic pipping Ross County to second place on the final day of the season thanks to a 6-1 win over Queen of the South, while Ross County could only manage a 2-2 draw away at Stenhousemuir. The top three were promoted as a result of league reconstruction. Alex Neil (footballer)
Alexander Francis Neil (born 9 June 1981) is a Scottish professional football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. He is currently the manager of EFL Championship club Stoke City. Neil began his professional career at Airdrieonians in 2000, playing half a season in the Scottish Football League First Division before moving to Barnsley. He played 142 games across all competitions in his four-year spell at Barnsley, and then signed for Mansfield Town on a free transfer. The 2013–14 Scottish Premiership was the first season of the Scottish Premiership, the highest division of Scottish football. The season began on 2 August 2013 and concluded on 11 May 2014.
