Martha Krebs
Martha Krebs is a theoretical physicist who directed the Office of Science and Technology Policy for the United States Department of Energy from 1993 to 2000. She later went on to be the founding director for the University of California, Los Angeles's California NanoSystems Institute. Early life and education Martha Krebs was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Krebs graduated summa cum laude at the Catholic University of America in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in physics. In 1975 she completed her PhD in theoretical physics, specializing in statistical mechanics at the same university. Krebs is part of the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Association for Women in Science. She is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society. Particle Accelerator
A particle accelerator is a machine that uses electromagnetic fields to propel charged particles to very high speeds and energies, and to contain them in well-defined beams. Large accelerators are used for fundamental research in particle physics. The largest accelerator currently active is the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) near Geneva, Switzerland, operated by the CERN. It is a collider accelerator, which can accelerate two beams of protons to an energy of 6.5  TeV and cause them to collide head-on, creating center-of-mass energies of 13 TeV. Philadelphia Naval Shipyard
The Philadelphia Naval Shipyard was an important naval shipyard of the United States for almost two centuries. Philadelphia's original navy yard, begun in 1776 on Front Street and Federal Street in what is now the Pennsport section of the city, was the first naval shipyard of the United States. It was replaced by a new, much larger yard developed around facilities begun in 1871 on League Island, at the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers.
