Marshwood High School
Marshwood High School is a public high school in York County, Maine, United States. It serves the towns of Eliot and South Berwick, as well as Rollinsford, New Hampshire. It has been at its current location at 260 Dow Highway ( Route 236) in South Berwick since September 1999, when it was moved from its previous location in Eliot. The current site is about from both Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Kittery, Maine. The school's mascot is the Hawk. The school offers a variety of varsity athletics. History In 1966, the towns of Eliot and South Berwick joined to form MSAD #35, and a new high school was built on Depot Road in Eliot. The high school was relocated to Route 236 in South Berwick in 2000. South Berwick is a town in York County, Maine, United States. The population was 7,467 at the 2020 census. South Berwick is home to Berwick Academy, a private, co-educational university-preparatory day school founded in 1791. The town was set off from Berwick in 1814, followed by North Berwick in 1831. Rollinsford, New Hampshire
Rollinsford is a town in Strafford County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,597 at the 2020 census. The main village in town was once known as "Salmon Falls Village". History The area was once within the domain of the Newichawannock people, an Abenaki sub-tribe which took its name from the Newichawannock River, meaning "river with many falls", now the Salmon Falls River. Their village was located at what later was known as Salmon Falls Village and is now Rollinsford. They fished at the falls, stretching nets across the river to catch migrating salmon and other species swimming upriver to spawn. But war and disease, probably smallpox brought from abroad, decimated the native population. Subsequently, settled by about 1630, the land was part of Dover, one of the original townships of New Hampshire. Maine State Route 236
State Route 236 (SR 236) is a state highway located in extreme southern Maine, entirely within York County. It begins at State Route 103 in Kittery and runs north, terminating at State Route 9 in Berwick. Between Kittery and South Berwick, SR 236 is known as the Harold L. Dow Highway. The highway runs roughly parallel to the New Hampshire border (the Salmon Falls River) over its entire length. Route description The southern terminus of SR 236 is at the intersection of SR 103 (Whipple Road), Woodlawn Avenue, and Shapleigh Road in Kittery, near the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. It follows Shapleigh Road and Rogers Road to the Kittery Traffic Circle, where it connects to US 1, US 1 Bypass, and Old Post Road. The rotary marks the southern end of the Dow Highway.
