Marshall Thundering Herd Football Seasons
The Marshall Thundering Herd college football team compete as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, representing Marshall University in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). Marshall has played their home games at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia since 1991. The team's current head coach is Charles Huff, who was hired in January 2021. The Thundering fielded their first team in 1895. They have played 122 seasons of football, compiling a record of 623–562–48 and winning 13 conference championships (12 outright). The Thundering Herd appeared in 18 bowl games, compiling a 13–5 record, and they appeared in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs eight times, winning two national championships (1992 and 1996). Marshall Thundering Herd Football
The Marshall Thundering Herd football team is an intercollegiate varsity sports program of Marshall University. The team represents the university as a member of the Sun Belt Conference East Division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, playing at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level. Marshall plays at Joan C. Edwards Stadium, which seats 38,227 and is expandable to 55,000. At the end of the 2021 football season, Marshall had a 177–42 record at Joan C. Edwards Stadium for a winning percentage of .808. The stadium opened in 1991 as Marshall University Stadium with a crowd of 33,116 for a 24–23 win over New Hampshire. On September 10, 2010, Marshall played the in-state rival West Virginia Mountaineers in Huntington in front of a record crowd of 41,382. Joan C. Edwards Stadium is one of two Division I stadiums named for a woman. The playing field is named James F. Edwards Field after Joan Edwards' husband, who was a businessman and philanthropist. ...

1898 Marshall Thundering Herd Football Team
The 1898 Marshall Thundering Herd football team represented Marshall University in the 1898 college football season. The team did not have a coach, and outscored their opponents 40–11 in four games (with one forfeit win) en route to the school's first winning season. The 1898 season contained two major firsts in Marshall football history: the first win (on Oct. 22 against Kingsbury High School) and the first away game (on Nov. 9 in Catlettsburg, Kentucky).
