English is a West Germanic language of the Indo-European language family, with its earliest forms spoken by the inhabitants of early medieval England. Steve Marriott
Stephen Peter Marriott (30 January 1947 – 20 April 1991) was an English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He co-founded and played in the rock bands Small Faces and Humble Pie, in a career spanning over two decades. Marriott was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of Small Faces. In Britain, Marriott became a popular, often-photographed mod style icon. Marriott was influenced by musicians such as: Miles Davis, Buddy Holly, Booker T & the MG's, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters and Bobby Bland. In his later life Marriott became distant with the music industry and turned away from major record labels, remaining in relative obscurity. Timothy William Marriott is a British television actor, playwright and theatre director. He is known for his role as Gavin Featherly in the BBC sitcom ''The Brittas Empire''. Career Marriott's most noted role was as Gavin Featherly in the BBC leisure centre sitcom ''The Brittas Empire''. It ran for 52 episodes in over six years on BBC One, from 3 January 1991 to 24 February 1997. He later wrote for the stage. William Thackeray Marriott
Sir William Thackeray Marriott (1834 – 27 July 1903), was a British barrister and Liberal and later Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1880 to 1893. Life Marriott was the third son of Christopher Marriott, of Crumpsall, and his wife Jane Dorothea, daughter of John Poole. He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge. He was ordained deacon in 1858 and became curate of St George's, Hulme, where he was a supporter of the rights of the working classes. However, he declined to take priest's orders for conscientious reasons the following year. Marriott instead entered Lincoln's Inn in 1861 and was called to the Bar in 1864. He established a successful legal practice and was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1877 and elected a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn in 1879. In 1880 he entered Parliament for Brighton as a Liberal. Major-general (United Kingdom), Major General Sir John Charles Oakes Marriott, (29 June 1895 – 11 September 1978) was a senior British Army officer who served during the First World War and again in the Second World War. John Marriott (British Politician)
Sir John Arthur Ransome Marriott (17 August 1859 – 6 June 1945) was a British educationist, historian, and Conservative member of parliament (MP). Marriott taught modern history at the University of Oxford from 1884 to 1920. He was an Honorary fellow, formerly fellow, lecturer and tutor in modern History, of Worcester College, Oxford. He was the Conservative MP for Oxford from 1917 to 1922, and for York from 1923 to 1929. After defeat in 1929, he retired from active politics. During the course of his lifetime, Marriott wrote more than forty books on British and European history, as well as current political subjects. He was knighted in 1924. James Henry Marriott (1799 – 25 August 1886) was a New Zealand theatre manager, actor, entertainer, playwright, songwriter, engraver, optician and bookseller. He was born in London, England, and arrived in New Zealand three years after the Wellington area was first settled. In Wellington he was involved with theatrical production at the Ship Hotel, Olympic Theatre, Britannia Saloon and Royal Lyceum. He made himself useful in the early days of the settlement by engraving tombstones, engraving illustrations for newspapers, and grinding lenses for telescopes. He ran a bookshop and sold sheet music, and contributed to the organised social and civic life of Wellington. James Patrick Blackden Marriott (6 September 1972 – 28 July 2012) was an English film critic and writer of fiction and non-fiction. Marriott was educated at Rokeby Preparatory School and Wellington College, Berkshire. A graduate of the University of Manchester, he completed an MA in Film Studies at University of Exeter in 2010. His main interest was horror film, although his work included short stories and true crime fiction. James Marriott (judge)
Sir James Marriott (29 October 1730 – 21 March 1803) was a prominent British judge, politician and scholar of the late eighteenth century who is best known for his service as Judge of the High Court of Admiralty, the highest court in Britain dealing with naval and maritime affairs. Although he presided over a number of important naval cases, his contribution to legal history lies principally in the publication of ''Formulare instrumentarum'', a text on admiralty law that had a significant influence on American law in particular. For the rest of his career, Marriott was a shameless pursuer of political favour, siding with several factions both before and during his service as Member of Parliament for Sudbury between 1780 and 1784 and 1796 and 1802. Jack Marriott (footballer)
Jack David Marriott (born 9 September 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for club Peterborough United. Marriott started his career at Ipswich Town, making his debut at the end of the 2012–13 season. Marriott signed on a two-month loan for Woking of the Conference Premier in November 2013, scoring nine goals in nine matches. He returned to Woking on loan in January 2014 after a brief stint at League One club Gillingham. He went on to sign for Carlisle United on a one-month loan at the start of the 2014–15 season. He returned to Woking on loan for a third spell in September 2014, playing in 24 matches, before ending the 2014–15 campaign at Colchester United of League One.
