Marlette, Michigan
Marlette is a city in Sanilac County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,855 at the time of the 2020 census. The city is surrounded by Marlette Township, but is administratively autonomous. Marlette is known as "The Heart of the Thumb" due to its location in Michigan's thumb. History The history of the City of Marlette and surrounding Marlette Township are intertwined. Many social and commercial relationships unite the community such public schooling, public library, dining and charity. Marlette was first settled in the 1850s by people from Ontario who sought tall timber and fertile soil. WTGV-FM (97.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a classic hits/oldies format, serving Sandusky and the Thumb and Blue Water area of Michigan. WTGV is owned and operated by Sanilac Broadcasting. History The station began broadcasting in 1971 under the WMIC-FM call sign, simulcasting WMIC-AM 1560 (now 660). WMIC-FM separated programming in 1977, switching to a beautiful music format, and adopted the WTGV ("Thumb's Great Voice") call sign two years later. The beautiful music format was updated to a MOR music mix over the years, and then to mainstream adult contemporary by 2000. Tuscola County is a county in the Thumb region of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the population was 53,323. The county seat is Caro. The county was created by Michigan Law on April 1, 1840, from land in Sanilac County and attached to Saginaw County for administrative purposes.
