Marlboro Packard
Marlboro Packard (August 19, 1828 – February 4, 1904) was a master shipbuilder who lived in Searsport, Maine, Searsport, Maine. He managed several economically important shipyards in Searsport. He built several ships including the ship ''Oneida'' in 1877 at the McGilvery Yard. In 1877 he built the ship ''William H. Conner'', which was the last and largest full-rigging, rigged ship built in Searsport. This ship's construction took place at the Carver Yard and cost over $100,000. The half-model of this ship is currently housed at the Penobscot Marine Museum. His parents were Nathan Packard and Mary (Chase) Packard. He married Mary Maria Parke on April 3, 1859. Searsport, Maine
Searsport is an incorporated town and deep water seaport located at the confluence of the Penobscot River estuary and the Penobscot Bay immediately NW of Sears Island and Cape Jellison in Waldo County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,649 at the 2020 census. Searsport includes the village of North Searsport. The town is known as "the home of the famous sea captains" and the "Antique Capital of Maine". History Searsport was settled in the 1760s and incorporated on February 13, 1845 from portions of Prospect and Belfast. In 1747, when fire destroyed the Province House in Boston, General Samuel Waldo advocated, unsuccessfully, that the capital of Massachusetts be moved to Searsport, which was part of the Waldo Patent he purchased about 1720. Searsmont
Searsmont is a town in Waldo County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,400 at the 2020 census. History Located at the junction of several well-marked Indian trails, Searsmont was originally called Quantabacook. The town was a part of the Waldo Patent purchased by a consortium of wealthy Boston investors that included David Sears. First settled in 1804 and called Fraternity Village by Ben Ames Williams, it was incorporated on February 5, 1814, as Searsmont, named after its proprietor. The town was noted for its productive soil, water power and abundant forests of white pine. By 1859, when the population was 1,693, it had 15 sawmills and two gristmills. In 1886, it had five lumber mills; three cooperages; a sash; blind and pump factory; four carriage factories; a tannery; a boot and shoe factory; and a coffin and bedstead factory.
