Market Square Shopping Centre (Kitchener)
Market Square Shopping Centre is a mall located in the downtown core of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, whose tenancy skews to services. History Built between 1971 and 1973 on the grounds of the original Kitchener City Hall in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. It was home to an Eaton's (opened in 1973 and later became a Sears Canada retail store), and home to the Kitchener Farmer's Market from 1973 to 2004. A glass clock tower at the corner of King and Frederick Streets pays homage to the former city hall clock tower, which is now located at Victoria Park, Kitchener. Decline The mall has since declined, through the 1990s (with a half empty food court with long time McDonald's leaving in 2015) as shoppers have fled to larger malls in Regional Municipality of Waterloo like Conestoga Mall in Waterloo or Fairview Park Mall or Cambridge Centre to the south. Frederick Station (Kitchener)
Frederick is a stop on the Region of Waterloo's Ion rapid transit system. It is located in the median of Frederick Street, just east of King Street, in downtown Kitchener. It opened in 2019. The station serves northbound trains only; the nearest southbound platform is at Queen station, about away down Benton and Charles streets. The station's feature wall consists of solid green glass tiles; this mimics the coloration of the exterior of Market Square. The primary access to the platform is from the crosswalk at King Street; a secondary access at the north end of the platform, crossing the southbound lanes of Frederick Street, is marked as an emergency exit only. Ion, stylized as ION, is an integrated public transportation network in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. It is operated by Keolis and is part of the Grand River Transit (GRT) system, partially replacing GRT's Route 200 iXpress bus service. The section of the bus route serving Cambridge has been renamed "Ion Bus", and renumbered as 302. The first phase commenced operations on June 21, 2019, between the north end of Waterloo and the south end of Kitchener. A future extension of light rail to the downtown Galt area of Cambridge (Phase 2) is planned but construction may not begin on that line until 2028. Grand River Transit (GRT) is the public transport operator for the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. It operates daily bus services in the region, primarily in the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, alongside the ION rapid transit light rail system which began service on June 21, 2019. Laura Mae Monique Lindo (born 1976) is a Canadian politician who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the 2018 provincial election.
