Mark Whitaker (journalist)
Mark Whitaker (born September 7, 1957) is an American author, journalist and media executive. He was the Editor of ''Newsweek'' from 1998 until 2006, the first African-American to lead a national news magazine. From 2004 to 2006, Whitaker served as President of the American Society of Magazine Editors. He was Senior Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief for NBC News. From 2011 to 2013, he was Executive Vice President and Managing Editor of CNN Worldwide. Whitaker has written the books ''My Long Trip Home'' (2011), a family memoir; ''Cosby: His Life and Times'' (2014), a biography of Bill Cosby; and ''Smoketown: The Untold Story of the Other Great Black Renaissance'' (2018), about the legacy of the African-American community of Pittsburgh. He was named one of ''Essence (magazine), Essence'' magazine's 25 most influential African-Americans for 2008. Mark Robin Whitaker (born 20 September 1946) is a former English cricketer. Whitaker was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast-medium. He was born in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Whitaker made his first-class debut for Cambridge University against Surrey in 1965. He made 11 further first-class appearances for the university, the last of which came against Warwickshire in 1967. A bowler, he took 20 wickets in his 12 first-class matches, which came at an average of 34.95. He took a single five-wicket haul, taking 5/62 against Middlesex in 1965. In 1969, he made his only appearance for Norfolk in a List A match against Yorkshire in the Gillette Cup. In this match, he bowled 7 wicket-less overs for the cost of 20 runs, while with the bat he ended Norfolk's innings unbeaten on 2. Mark Cornelius Whittaker (born 29 July 1965) is an Australian journalist, non-fiction writer and writing coach. He lives in Berry, New South Wales. Early life Whittaker was born in Sydney, New South Wales, the son of journalist Bill Whittaker, and attended Newington College (1978–1983). Career In 1985 Whittaker commenced as a copy boy with News Limited and became a staff writer on ''The Weekend Australian Magazine'' in 1993. Seven years later he left the ''Magazine'' to travel around Australia and write. In 2005, his book Sins of the Brother was made into a television mini-series, Catching Milat. He regularly writes for the Good Weekend magazine and The Australian newspaper.
