Mark Weideman
Mark Weideman (born 30 December 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Weideman was just 16 when he made his senior debut for South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club West Adelaide in 1978. His father, Murray Weideman, had coached the club earlier in the decade, after an 11-year career at Collingwood. Weideman followed in his father's footsteps and played 28 games for Collingwood over four seasons. He played 20 of those games in his debut season in 1981, which included their preliminary final win over Geelong, but he wasn't selected in the Grand Final team, his spot taken by captain Peter Moore, who was returning from injury. Used by Collingwood up forward and as a ruckman, Weideman was never again a regular fixture in the team, appearing twice in 1982, five times in 1983 and just once in 1984. 1983 VFL Season
The 1983 VFL season was the 87th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 26 March until 24 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. Prior to the season, the South Melbourne Football Club, which had played its home games in Sydney, New South Wales in 1982, formally relocated its operations to Sydney and was renamed the Sydney Swans. Phil Cleary
Philip Ronald Cleary (born 8 December 1952) is an Australian commentator on politics and sport, particularly Australian rules football, and a former independent politician elected at the 1992 Wills by-election. Football playing career Cleary first came to notice as a prominent player and coach in Victoria's second-level Australian rules football competition, the Victorian Football Association, for the Coburg Football Club. He debuted with the club in 1975, playing 205 games—second only to Dave Starbuck in Coburg club history—and kicking 317 goals. He was a member of the 1979 premiership side and losing 1980 side. In team sport, team of the century and team of the decade are hypothetical best teams over a given time period. For the century team, it can be either 100 years, or for a century (always the 20th). Best And Fairest
In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player.
