Mark Van Name
Mark L. Van Name (born 14 March 1955) is an American science fiction writer and technology consultant. As of 2009, Van Name lives in North Carolina. About With John Kessel, Van Name co-founded the Sycamore Hill Writer's Workshop in 1985, and in 1996 he, Kessel, and Richard Butner edited an anthology of stories written there, called ''Intersections: The Sycamore Hill Anthology'', including one of his own stories. Van Name's first professionally published science fiction short story was "My Sister, My Self", in 1984, in the anthology ''Isaac Asimov's Tomorrow's Voices''. His first novel, ''One Jump Ahead'', was published by Baen Books in 2007, and won the Compton Crook Award for Best First Novel in the Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror genres in 2008. It is the first book in the Jon and Lobo series, of which he published another four books until 2012. Pat Murphy (writer)
Patrice Ann "Pat" Murphy (born March 9, 1955) is an American science writer and author of science fiction and fantasy novels. Early life Murphy was born on March 9, 1955 in Washington state. Career Murphy has used the ideas of the absurdist pseudophilosophy pataphysics in some of her writings. Along with Lisa Goldstein and Michaela Roessner, she has formed The Brazen Hussies to promote their work. Together with Karen Joy Fowler, Murphy co-founded the James Tiptree, Jr. Award in 1991. With her second novel, ''The Falling Woman'' (1986), she won the Nebula Award, and another Nebula Award in the same year for her novelette, "Rachel in Love." Her short story collection, ''Points of Departure'' (1990) won the Philip K. Dick Award, and her 1990 novella, ''Bones'', won the World Fantasy Award in 1991. David Drake
David A. Drake (born September 24, 1945) is an American author of science fiction and fantasy literature. A Vietnam War veteran who has worked as a lawyer, he is now a writer in the military science fiction genre. Biography Drake graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Iowa, majoring in history (with honors) and Latin. His studies at Duke University School of Law were interrupted for two years when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as an enlisted interrogator with the 11th Armored Cavalry (the Black Horse Regiment) in Vietnam and Cambodia. After the war, from 1972 to 1980 he worked as the Assistant Town Attorney in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Since 1981 he transitioned to full time writing of science fiction literature. With Karl Edward Wagner and Jim Groce, he was one of the initiators of Carcosa, a small press company. He now lives in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
